WhatisRPL?Established by the Australian
Government in the late 1990s,
Skills Recognition or Recognition
of Prior Learning (RPL) is a
straightforward assessment process
which gets you the qualifications
you deserve by reviewing your
skills, knowledge and experience.
By completing a self-assessment,
and providing relevant supporting
evidence, you can achieve a Nationally
Recognised Qualification in a matter
of weeks through our various
Registered Training Organisation
(RTO) partners – all without stepping
foot in a classroom in most cases.
“Your level of service is
reminiscent of two words for
me: methodically delivered.
And this is coming from
someone that has over
twenty years experience
in the service industry.
Many thanks.”
- Hamid Olyayani, November 2014

• Employment contracts
• Job descriptions
• Testimonials from employers, managers
and industry colleagues
• Reference letters
Work based evidence could include:
• Portfolios
• Completed products
• Work sheets
• Emails
• Photos
• Videos
• Competency conversation
• Previously attended training & workshops
• Prior study and transcripts
• Reports
• Business plans
Trades Related Evidence
• Resume with industry experience & job roles
• Reference letters from trade employers
• Job statements or log sheets
• Photos and videos of trade work
• Any“on the job”training, workshops or pre-apprenticeships

Rules of Evidence
When verifying the evidence you supply, our RPL Facilitators/Assessors, along with the RTO, are looking
to ensure that the evidence you submit is relevant to the qualification you’re looking for. The right kind of
evidence to provide would be:
Current
When supplying evidence,
it’s important that it’s from
either the present or recent past.
Any longer and it might not be
considered relevant.
Authentic
You’ll want to ensure that all
evidence is your own work and
that it’s apparent that it’s yours.
For those in the trades, photos
and videos of you performing the
tasks work great!
Sufficient
This relates to the quantity and
quality of the evidence provided.
You want to ensure
you have enough evidence so
that all aspects of competency
are satisfied.
Valid
The validity of the evidence you
provide means that the evidence
always needs to be directly
related to the competency
being assessed.

THEORETICAL
Practical
AssessmentsFor some Qualifications, a theoretical
and/or practical assessment may
be required against some Units of
Competency. This is done in order to
verify your skills and knowledge to meet
industry and regulatory standards.
This assessment could include
assessment against the following criteria:
• Online and/or face-to-face theoretical
assessment
• Read and respond to work instructions,
specifications, technical drawings and plans
• Correct use and application of tools, machines
and equipment for acceptable trade practice
• Correct use and application of tools and
measuring instruments
• Plan, set out, lay out and undertake work
tasks associated with a trade occupation for
acceptable trade practice
• Diagnose and correct faults or undertake
repairs for acceptable trade practice
• Create or produce trade products and services
in accordance with acceptable trade practice
• Carry out trade work independently
• Supervise and impart trade skills and
knowledge to other staff, including apprentices

Gap Training
In certain situations, you might not be
able provide sufficient evidence that helps
to determine competency. If that happens,
you can still achieve your qualification, but
the following may occur:
+ A Statement of Attainment can
be issued by the RTO listing all
the Units of Competency you
have successfully completed
+ You can complete Gap Training to
verify competency. This involves
additional learning and assessment
coordinated by the RTO. Gap Training
is usually self-paced and completed
online using our e-Learning portal
+ Face-to-Face Training is another method
of conducting Gap Training
The review of my CV, feedback in relation to my
RPL assessment, invoicing and completion of
the process has literally only taken a few days,
which far exceeded my expectations in simplicity
and the level of service provided by you.
GQ Australia has proven to be one of the
most professional organisations that I
have had experience with, and I will be
recommending your services to others.
