This document appears to be a letter from Paul to the church in Rome. It discusses how all people have sinned and fall short of God's glory. However, God demonstrates his love for us through Jesus, who died for our sins. The letter references several Bible verses discussing how whoever believes in Jesus will be saved and have eternal life. It encourages calling on the name of the Lord to be saved.
A few weeks ago we contemplated that our understanding of grace would go no deeper than our understanding of our sin and our sin nature. The same is true for judgment. Our secular culture scorns such an event or a “God who would judge.” That doesn’t dismiss that God is just to judge sin. Greg will remind us that the more we face the judgment that was due us, the greater will be our wonder at God’s grace.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

9. If you confess with your mouth
that Jesus is Lord, and believe in
your heart that God raised him
from the dead, you will be saved.
For it is with your heart that you
believe and are justified, and it is
with your mouth that you
confess and are saved.
Romans 10:9-10
21. Till on that cross as Jesus died. The wrath of
god was satisfied. For every sin on him was
laid. Here in the depth of Christ I live. There
in the ground, His body lay. Light of the world
by darkness slain. Then bursting forth in
glorious day. Up from the grave he rose again.
And as he stands in victory. Sin’s curse has
lost its grip on me. For I am his and he is
mine. Bought with the precious blood of
Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death. This
is the power of Christ in me

34. But thanks be to God that though you were
slaves to sin, you obeyed from the heart that
pattern of teaching you were entrusted to,
and having been freed from sin, you became
enslaved to righteousness. (I am speaking in
human terms because of the weakness of
your flesh.) For just as you once presented
your members as slaves to impurity and
lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so
now present your members as slaves to
righteousness leading to sanctification.
