Digital transformation is a leadership challenge. Not a technology challenge. Start with why. What do you want to achieve. A move to public cloud will be a likely consequence - but is not, in itself, a driver for change.

There are a lot of presentations about What EA does, and I wanted to say something about Why we do it. While there is a lot of discussion around the scope of EA, this is an unapologetic IT-centric perspective, because that is where many EA organizations have emerged. My only instructions on how to present this material is to do it with some passion.

Building the Modern Institution (a nod to Microsoft's use of the term 'Modern Workplace') requires a complete digital transformation of the way HE and FE organisations work. Whilst this is highly likely to also require significant migration to the public cloud, the primary challenges will be around leadership and culture more than around technology.

Data Virtualization, a Strategic IT Investment to Build Modern Enterprise Dat...Denodo
This content was presented during the Smart Data Summit Dubai 2015 in the UAE on May 25, 2015, by Jesus Barrasa, Senior Solutions Architect at Denodo Technologies.
In the era of Big Data, IoT, Cloud and Social Media, Information Architects are forced to rethink how to tackle data management and integration in the enterprise. Traditional approaches based on data replication and rigid information models lack the flexibility to deal with this new hybrid reality. New data sources and an increasing variety of consuming applications, like mobile apps and SaaS, add more complexity to the problem of delivering the right data, in the right format, and at the right time to the business. Data Virtualization emerges in this new scenario as the key enabler of agile, maintainable and future-proof data architectures.
In a hyper-connected world, the agile data center helps grow the business by delivering the right services to users in a scalable, flexible and secure.
Businesses today compete at the speed of thought. Nobody can afford to stand still; if a company isn’t looking to render its best-selling products or services obsolete, somebody else will be—and that might be a known competitor or a stealthy startup.
At their best, IT departments are at the forefront of this change, enabling agile transformations of business service delivery to employees and customers. Unfortunately, while IT strives to deliver against its capabilities, too often those capabilities may be restricted because of legacy systems.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Some basic questions to ask:
Is the market opportunity real?
Is it a sustained market opportunity?
Is the timing right? / Do we have the right technology?
Are the incumbents delivering what the customers want/need?
Can we maneuver and deliver faster than the incumbents?
Do we have the team or can we build it?

- Facing massive scaling requirements
- Networking does not follow Moore’s Law
Over the last 10 years:
• the Internet has grown about 100x
• the compute capacity of datacenters has grown
~1,000x [1]
Moore’s law continues to push down the cost of compute
• Lower compute costs lead to greater compute power
being called upon for greater data analytics, evolving
business models, etc.
Networking costs do not follow Moore’s Law [2]
• Relative cost of networking is increasing with respect
to compute [1] Dorren et al, Journal of Lightwave
Technology, Vol. 33, No. 5, March 1, 2015

Compute
Many are left scratching their heads how a potential 1,000x increase in compute
capacity in datacenters over the next 10 years will be addressed by networking.[1]

6. How Do We Do It?
Have supportive, understanding investors
with aligned interests i.e. to make the
company a success.
Build a great team with the brightest
people in the industry and lead and
motivate them effectively.
In our case, we are addressing a problem
in scaling datacenters by bringing all the
necessary disciplines together in one
team…CMOS, SiP, System Design,
customer base, packing and operations.
– Came up with a paradigm shift. Other
groups seem to work from primarily one
discipline at the problem. We make those
cross functional juices flow and it has been
amazing to see the innovation.
Ensure we are deeply embedded in
relationships with our customers and
listen to them.
– Get their attention and mind share early
on…bring the product idea alive with
them and show them how they adopt the
solution in a low risk incremental way
Leverage the CM, foundry and
development partner environment to
maintain a capital light model.
Hardware these days scares a lot of
investors, but our version of hardware
focusses on design, is fabless and at the
end of the day creates highly defendable
value and barrier to further competitors
