Roberto Clemente was a famous Puerto Rican baseball player who played his entire 18-season career in Major League Baseball with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1955 to 1972. He was a 12-time All Star and won 12 Gold Glove Awards. Clemente was involved in charity work, often delivering aid to Latin America. On December 31, 1972, Clemente died in a plane crash while attempting to deliver relief supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. He was committed to personally ensuring the victims received much needed aid.
