Roberto Clemente was born in Puerto Rico in 1934 and signed with various baseball teams in Puerto Rico and the Major Leagues in the 1950s, making his debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1955. He went on to have a very successful career with the Pirates, winning two World Series and being named MVP in 1966. Clemente was the first Latin American player inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973 after tragically dying in a plane crash at age 38 while attempting to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.

In 1960 the Pittsburgh Pirates win the World Series. Clemente feels slighted after
finishing 8th in the National League Most Valuable Player voting. Roberto
Clemente was getting famous everyday game he played. Roberto Clemente was
reaching his goals and being the people’s hero. Clemente had arecord of 27
outfield assists and wins the first of 12 consecutive Gold Gloves for his defensive
play in right field. Clemente also leads the National League in batting, finishing the
season with a .351 average by 1961. In November 14, 1964 Clemente marries
Vera Cristina Zabala in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They will go on to have three

Game 7. He is named the World Series Most Valuable Player in October 17, 1971.
Clemente doubles against the New York Mets in his last game of the season,
marking career hit 3,000. He is the first Latin player and just the 11th in baseball
history (at that time) to reach the milestone. He dedicates the hit to "the
Pittsburgh fans and to the people in Puerto Rico." In December 23, 1972Clemente
heard that a devastating earthquake hits Managua, Nicaragua. Clemente decides
