Narendra Modi was born in 1950 in Gujarat, India. He became active in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at age 8 and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1985, becoming Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001. As Chief Minister, Modi implemented economic reforms and infrastructure projects that improved growth. He led the BJP to victory in the 2014 general election, becoming the 15th Prime Minister of India. Modi has pursued economic and development initiatives to make India's economy more competitive globally and improve services and infrastructure domestically.
