Right Cylinders By: Evann W. Class: 8M
What are they? A right cylinder is a 3-D (3-dimensional) solid rounded object that is made up of two circles on the top and bottom and one rectangle (quadrilateral). Some real life examples include: soup cans, unsharpened pencils, candles, etc.
A Net of a Right Cylinder When this net is folded-up correctly it forms a right cylinder. Top Circle Bottom Circle Rectangle
Finding the Surface Area To find the surface area of a right cylinder, you must follow this formula: SA= 2(3.14)(R 2 ) + 2(3.14)(R)(H) Radius = 5 cm Height = 11 cm Now, use the dimensions of the right cylinder in the formula SA= 2(3.14)(5x5) + 2(3.14)(5)(11) SA= 6.28x25 + 6.28x5x11 SA= 157 + 345.4 SA= 502.4 cm 2
