Historically, transportation solutions in India's cities have been implemented more on an ad
hoc basis rather than as holistically planned, fully functional systems. The legacy of
transportation systems handed down from the days of the Raj and still functioning in cities
like Mumbai and Kolkata are in dire need of significant overhaul and upgradation. As India's
middle class' propensity to opt for personal transportation solutions increases, there is a
need for a world-class, efficient and self-sustaining public transportation system in India's
cities. Keeping this in mind, the Ministry of Urban Development formulated the National
Urban Transportation Policy which prescribes guidelines for the successful development of
urban mass transit solutions in India. While this is definitely a step in the right direction,
embattled issues related to legislation, regulatory framework, financing and political
propaganda continue to plague progress.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

“T Hierry” tackle reverse logistics under the expression product recovery
management as being: the management of all used or discarded products,
components and materials that fall under the responsibility of a
manufacturing company. The objective of product recovery management is
to recover as much of the economic (and ecological) value as reasonably
possible, thereby reducing the ultimate quantities of waste.
“Council of Logistics Management” defines Reverse Logistics as: The
process of planning, implementing, and controlling the efficient, cost
effective flow of raw materials, in-process inventory, finished goods and
related information from the point of consumption to the point of origin for
the purpose of recapturing value or proper disposal.
“F Leischmann” has analysed various definitions of reverse logistics in order
to define it as: the process of planning, implementing, and controlling the
efficient, effective inbound flow and storage of secondary goods and
related information opposite to the traditional supply chain direction for
the purpose of recovering value or proper disposal.

16. Conclusion and Recommendations
If applied properly, then reverse logistics can reduce the processing cost of up to 25%,
increase productivity by 10%, increase net profit by 2 - 5%, and improve customer
satisfaction with increased retention.
With changing times, it becomes important for logistics players in India to invest in adopting
and upgrading technologies and reinventing processes to make them smarter and efficient.
Not just Block Chain technologies, but the rise of robotics and artificial intelligence is also
redefining the logistics industry in India as it minimizes human intervention, enhances quality
and reduces cost.
Businesses need to know that carrier systems, accounting solutions, ecommerce platforms
and the warehouse must work in lock-step to secure a seamless customer experience and
safeguard the bottom line.
