The respiratory system is responsible for giving the body oxygen through the blood. Air passes through the larynx and trachea down to the lungs. The lungs are the center of the respiratory system where the exchange of gases occurs. Key parts include the larynx or voice box, trachea or windpipe, bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli in the lungs, as well as the diaphragm muscle which supports breathing.
