Research task – the life of a film
Vertigo Films ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Films made by vertigo are usually low budget, and feature emotional themes, e.g. Drugs abuse, alcoholism and domestic violence. The films are targeted mostly at a niche audience.
Warner Bros ,[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],[object Object],Warner Bros, films are mostly large budget and are targeted at a large audience in order to make a profit from the large budget (often 10s of millions), the themes involved are their to appeal to a wide audience also they use big name actors who will bring in people to watch the unlike the themes in Vertigo Films which are targeted at a Niche audience.
The Firm ,[object Object],[object Object],The film the firm is targeted at the football fans of England, it was advertised on TV shows like Soccer Am to target specifically the audience they are aiming at. Its gross profit was £869,680
The Dark Knight ,[object Object],[object Object],The Dark Knight was a very large budget film $185,000,000. in order to make a profit they had to appeal to a large audience in order not to make a large loss, this obviously worked with $1,001,921,825 gross profit. The Dark Knight, was released 24 July 2008 (UK) 14 July 2008 (USA)
Production The Dark Knight Had an estimated Budget of 185,000,000 Warner bros funded it along with legendary pictures. The dark knight was one of the films in the batman series along with Batman Begins. The dark Knight was a sequel to Batman Begins. The film has big name actors such as Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Morgan Freeman to help sell it. Warner bros mostly make big budget films which appeal to the mass market. The Firm Was a low budget film with a small revenue of only £869,680 compared to The Dark Knights $1,001,921,825 Is a remake of the 1989 classic TV film. Vertigo films mostly make low budget films aimed at a niche market apart from the recent step up 3d which was aimed at a fairly mass market
Distribution The dark knight Distributed by Warner bros, fox Warner, Karo premier, sandrew metronome distribution, Village films. It was distributed to many countries, Malaysia, Switzerland, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Greece, Canada, Chilli, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, USA, Argentina, Australia, Germany, UK, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore and brazil. The home distributors were Warner Home Video, HBO. The firm Distributed by Warner bros It was released in the UK, USA and in Germany as well. It was distributed in Germany by Ascot Elite Entertainment
Exhibition The dark knights box office takings $1,001,921,825 I would expect it to be showed in Reigate cinema a few weeks after its release as it would be cheaper to rent the films reels, the films was a very good success with an initial budget of $185,000,000 And a return of $1,001,921,825 which is a 441.6% return on the initial investment. The Firms box office takings were £869,680 I would expect the firm to be shown in Reigate cinema as it is a fairly small cinema and vertigo films are usually targeted at a niche audience . The box office takings were not as big as the Dark Knight but they didn't spend anywhere near as much on production as Warner bros did when making The Dark Knight
Horizontal and vertical integration Warner bros have Production, Distribution the own castle rock entertainment, Budapest films, Turner Broadcasting System this makes them horizontal and vertically integrated. Vertigo is and independent company and doesn't have distribution like Warner bros does.
