Research Paper Using Word
This assignment has two goals: 1) have students increase their understanding of the concept of Protecting Personal Information (PPI) and other ethical issues related to the use of information technology through research, and 2) learn to correctly incorporate citations and references in APA format. Students may use the tools and techniques within Word to format the research paper, including use of the References and citation tools. These skills will be valuable throughout a student’s academic career. The paper will require a title page, NO abstract, three to four
full
pages of content with incorporation of a minimum of 3 external resources from credible sources and a Works Cited/References page. Wikipedia and similar general information sites, blogs or discussion groups are not considered creditable sources for a research project. No more than 10% of the paper may be in the form of a direct citation from an external source.
A list of topics from which students can choose is provided below.
Topics for Research Paper
Social Engineering – what it is, how it is used, and potential positive and negative impacts on individuals and on society
Employee Monitoring – why and how it is used, the legal issues surrounding its use, and impacts on employer and employee
Biometrics – various implementations and the ethical and privacy issues related to the use of biometrics
Use of Cookies – what they are, how they are used, and potential positive and negative impacts
What are the privacy laws related to Information Technology use and how do they impact you personally?
Intellectual Property Rights; issues related to copyright, fair use, copyright infringement, and the potential personal and financial impacts
7.
The Edward Snowden case - the dilemma between the "Official Secrets Act" versus a perceived duty to share versus the damage it may do to national security.
8.
The Apple vs. FBI controversy over unlocking the iPhone
If there is another topic that addresses ethical issues as related to information technology that is of special interest to you but one that is not in the list above, request permission from your instructor before selecting this alternate topic.
Writing Quality for the Research Paper
* All Grammar, Verb Tenses, Pronouns, Spelling, Punctuation, and Writing Competency should be without error.
* Be particularly careful about mis-matching a noun and pronoun. For example, if you say "A person does this…" then do not use "their" or "they" when referring to that person. "Person" is singular; "their" or "they" is plural.

these organization steps.
Paper organization
Open Word and save a blank document with the following name:
“Student’s LastNameFirstInitial Research Paper”
The paper should be organized in the following way:
1. Title page:
a. Center in the middle of the page (horizontally and vertically) the title (subject) of the paper and below that
your name
2. Body of the paper:
a. Use 12-point Arial font
b. Set the margins at 1”
c. Length – 3-5 full pages, not counting the title page or the References page.
d. Include a minimum of 3 APA-formatted citations and related References page. Every reference must be cited
at least once, and every citation have an entry in the References list. If you are not familiar with APA format,
it is recommended that you use the References feature in Word for your citations and Reference List or refer
to the "Citing and Writing" option under the Resources/Library/Get Help area in the LEO classroom. It is
important to review the final format for APA-style correctness even if generated by Word.
e. Include at least two (2) informational footnotes. Footnotes are not used to list a reference! Footnotes contain
information about the topic to which the footnote has been attached.
f. Place the references on a separate page following the body of the paper. Note: Use a hard return (CTRL
Enter) after the end of your paper body and the start of the References page.
3. Organization of the content of the paper:
Include the following sections in the paper (include, in bold, the headings identified here):
a. Introduction - Identify the issue or idea. Explain why was the topic selected and what you are trying to
achieve (what is your end goal). The introduction should not be more than half a page; details will be
discussed in the follow-on areas.
b. Areas of interest, activity or issue – Define the issue or idea in greater detail. Define the specific problem
or problems or new idea. Identify other underlining or related issues as well as dependencies. Explain what

Florida International University
CGS 3095 – <enter the semester here>
Abstract
This is a very brief synopsis of the entire paper, stating what the issue is and some idea of the approach or analysis used. You may also wish to state what you intend to show in this paper. The abstract will be a single paragraph.
Title of the Paper1 INTRODUCTION
This is the start of your paper. The first paragraph should briefly introduce the problem or issues, without too much detail. Briefly state what you intend to show in this paper. All should be double-spaced, as shown in this format sample. Margins are 1” on all sides. Add a page header as shown. Use fonts and font sizes exactly as shown in this document.
Paragraph two should outline the structure of your paper, in a fashion similar to this. This paper is organized as follows. Section 1 presents a detailed description of the problem or issue, Section 2 describes..., and Section N presents conclusions. This part of the paper should be only one or two paragraphs long. Generally, two paragraphs is sufficient for the introduction.2. BACKGROUND AND SIGNIFICANCE (or whatever is appropriate for your topic)
Major section numbers should then commence, using the heading formats shown below. Any figures or charts should be small in size, and may not be counted in the page count. They should be labeled “Figure a.b” where a represents the section number, and b represents the sequential numbering of figures within that section.
2.1 Section subheading
You must have a minimum of five separate references, from different sources (i.e., do not use five web pages from the same web site). References must be done in IEEE style, and should start on a new page. In-line citations and reference numbering will be done in the IEEE fashion. References should be dated within the past 3 years. Each reference is double-spaced as shown at the end of this format document. References should appear in the References section in the order in which they are used in the body of the paper [1], not alphabetically. Inline citations should use reference document numbers instead of author names [2]. An easy way to get the References format correct is to use the Citation Machine web site to build your references, located at https://www.citationmachine.net/style At the top of this page, select IEEE, then select the type of reference (journal, book, etc.). Then enter the information on the associated screen, and let this web site build the correct reference format for you, which can then be copied and pasted into your References section. Build the references as you write the paper, so that you will not have to go back and determine the source of the material in your paper. You can also use Microsoft Word’s reference generator.
Web-based references are permissible, but should be solid articles, not blogs, forum posts, or multimedia links (unless absolut ...

Research Project Introduction:
This project will require you to show initiative, to work effectively in a group, and to do research on a chosen topic. It will require you to write an individual research paper, and do a group presentation on the topic.
Technology and Information Systems are constantly changing. It is important that you learn how to investigate and understand current and emerging trends throughout your career. This project will aid you in learning how to identify and synthesize multiple perspectives on important topics. It will also help you to appreciate and utilize the contributions of team members that will augment your own personal efforts.
The research project will involve two phases as described below.
1.
Identify a topic and write an individual research paper on that topic.
2.
Work with a group to do a group presentation in which one or more of you will highlight important findings from your research.
Part 1 Individual Paper:
If your paper is late, you will receive a 25% deduction per day.
Plagiarism detection will be enabled, you must put other source content into your own words. You will get zero points on the paper if too much (an excessive amount of) content is copied word for word from another source.

In considering what to write about, consider addressing many of the questions that an uninformed but curious person would have about this topic, such as:
What does the phrase that describes this topic mean?
How is work in this field conducted?
What are the major components of this topic?
Who are the major vendors involved (if any) and what are their product lines and how are they differentiated from other vendors?
How much money is involved with this field/topic?
What are the trade offs (pros and cons/risks) to consider within this topic?
If you wrote a tutorial on this topic, how would explain to another person how you do it?
Why did this field/topic come about? What preceded it?

Week 2 Discussion - PESTEL
1
This week’s reading assignment discussed six general environment factors that can provide important opportunities or threats to an organization. Take the organization or firm that you are associated with or familiar with and discuss a general environment trend that has positive implications. Further, identify which of the six elements of PESTEL are important to the organization? Describe why? Identify which of the six elements are not important? Describe why?
The original post is due by Thursday, May 25, 2022, by midnight. Responses to two classmates are also required and due by May 29, 2022, by midnight. Users must post in order to see classmates' replies to this discussion.

Collaboration is a general environment trend that will positively effect the creatives around the world including Ultramacs Music Group. In the future, the increase of collaboration will bring people together to boost creativity. This will help Ultramacs Music Group create with more advanced producers and artists to have greater impact, as well as work with other artists.
An increase in technology will be used to develop this trend. Ultramacs music will be effected because collaboration will allow its artists to work with more skilled music industry personnel. They will not be limited by location and some budgetary restraints. Their recordings will be shared easier and their branding will be available to people wishing to work with them. An increase in customers will provide rewards.
The most important PESTEL Acronym to me is technological factors. The internet is a business owner's best friend, allowing an owner to make more income and create more opportunities and connections. Some scholars say the internet is evolving to be the main source of trade.
Legal is the least important because businesses should always maneuver within the law. The advantage of technology allows more freedom to protect themselves instead of using lawyers. There are ways to protect documents and information with security software. Contract, copyright, and patent documents can be found on the internet, if carefully reviewed.
All acronyms of PESTEL create a company that is innovative and progressive.

Writing a MemoThe following was developed based on the d.docxambersalomon88660
Writing a Memo
The following was developed based on the document written by Matthew Ford at Northern Kentucky University and provided online at the linkhttp://www.nku.ed/~fordmw/memo.htm
Writing effective internal company memos is an acquired skill that frequently distinguishes the great manager inside a company. Senior executives usually take notice of lower level managers who precisely communicate issues in written form.
The key to effective internal memos is that they communicate much in a small amount of space. A cardinal rule of great memo writing is this: All important information must appear on the first page.
The following provides one way to organize an internal memo. This format is particularly applicable towards a memo that communicates the results of some project or investigation that has been assigned to the writer.
Example!!!
MEMO
Memorandum" (or "Memo") usually appears in bold letters either left- or center-justified at the top of the page. Other important information that appears at the top of page one includes:
Date:
To:
From:
Subject:
If this is a memo designed to communicate the findings of some project or investigation assigned to the author, then the structure of the memo typically progresses as follows:
Introduction
Two or three sentences that orient your reader about why you are writing to him or her. Your boss may not remember why he or she assigned you this project. In this section, refresh your boss's memory. The Introduction should inform the reader about specific background information regarding the project you are writing about (for example, who, what, when, where, why). In most analytical memos, your tone should be unemotional and objective. Avoid putting your conclusions or key points in this section--those things go in the next section.
Summary
This is where you place your key points for a busy executive that only has three minutes to read it. Key points are usually best communicated by listing them in “bullets” as single sentences, avoiding lengthy and wordy paragraphs. Your key points must all fit on the first page.
In an analytical memo your key points might consist of:
· Major strengths or weaknesses that you'd like to highlight.
· Opportunities for improvement.
· At least one recommendation for action.
Findings (to write finding for each bullet)
This is for the reader that needs more specific information than the summary information presented in the key points listed above. A useful rule: It should be easy for the reader to clearly link the portions of this section with each of the key points listed in the previous section.
Appendix
This attachment to the memo is where the reader will find a brief discussion about the data, the various techniques employed and the assumptions made, and any limitations regarding your analysis or findings. In addition, this is where reader will find the tables and charts referred to in the body of the memo.

File Names
The files submitted should be named as follows: Your name, project ID or project title. For example: "Schank, DraftPlan.docx" or "Karl Schank, Draft Small System Design Project.doc".
All assignments are to be submitted in each student's Assignments Folder.
Format
Format is APA style, which means and includes the following:
· Use Microsoft Word. If you do not have Microsoft Word, "Save As" a word document in Word .doc or .docx format.
· Use Page Setup to configure it.
· Use 1" margins top, bottom, left and right sides.
· Use Times New Roman size 12; or Arial, or Verdana size 10.
· Line spacing should be no more than double-spaced.
· Use appropriate paragraph and section headings and subheadings. Headings and subheadings should be placed at the left margin.
· The first word of each new paragraph should be indented.
· For documents that are longer than one page, number each page in the bottom right corner. The title page should never be numbered.
· Size limit: A page limit and number of words are specified in the instructions for each project or paper. The limit refers to the body of the paper excluding the "front matter" (title page, table of contents, executive summary) and "back matter" (reference bibliography of works cited). The body of the paper should be neither shorter than the lower limits not longer than the upper limits. Filibustering will get you nowhere.

Review the Huston (2010) article listed under reading assignments. W.docxdaynamckernon
Review the Huston (2010) article listed under reading assignments. Which skills described for the Nurse Leader in the year 2020 are important now? Explain your rationale and provide an example from your practice setting (or from your prelicensure program) to support it.
This is the article:
eynote speaker at the conference, American
nursing professor and former president of
the international honour society of nursing,
Sigma Theta Tau, Carol Huston, painted a
picture of a brave new nursing world in 2020,
in her opening presentation,
Preparing nurse
leaders for 2020.
She outlined eight leadership competencies
every nurse leader would need in the 2020. The
first was a global perspective. “Every health care
issue has to be looked at from a global perspective.
We used to think pandemics were confined
to developing countries. We now know they are
just one short flight away.”
There was a more urgent need for international
standards for basic nursing education.
The nursing shortage was one of the most
serious threats to global health, she said, and
it would get significantly worse before it got
better. Nurse migration was a global problem.
(See news p7.)
The second leadership competency was better
use of technology to connect people. Technology
had driven so many changes already in health
care but knowledge and information acquisition
and distribution was going to multiply exponentially.
“Forty percent of what we know today will
be obsolete in three years,” Huston said.
She listed a range of technological developments
that would have a major impact on health
care in the next 20 years. By 2030 diagnostic
body scans, which could identify underlying
pathology, would become part of showering.
Improvements in body scanning technology
would mean there would be no need for invasive
surgery or tests. “Nano bots” circulating in the
blood stream would identify disease processes
and begin to repair them. Gene therapy would
mean what was now untreatable would be treatable
and could see cancer abolished completely
within two decades. Stem cell therapy would
eliminate the need for organ transplants “as we
will grow new organs. It is predicted we will be
able to grow heart, kidneys and livers by 2020.
There are already clinical trials underway growing
new teeth – instead of dentures you would
grow you own new teeth.”
Merging of the human and the machine would
advance significantly and by 2020 there would
be pancreatic pacemakers for diabetics and the
technology to enable blind people to see and
deaf people to hear.
Robotics would continue to develop, with
physical service robots which could wash patients
and help feed and carry patients. There
was the potential for the use of robots in
therapeutic roles. Paro, a robotic seal developed
in Japan, responded to patting by closing its

· Use Page Setup to configure it.
· Use 1" margins top, bottom, left and right sides.
· Use Times New Roman size 12; or Arial, or Verdana size 10.
· Line spacing should be no more than double-spaced.
· Use appropriate paragraph and section headings and subheadings. Headings and subheadings should be placed at the left margin.
· The first word of each new paragraph should be indented.
· For documents that are longer than one page, number each page in the bottom right corner. The title page should never be numbered.
· Size limit: A page limit and number of words are specified in the instructions for each project or paper. The limit refers to the body of the paper excluding the "front matter" (title page, table of contents, executive summary) and "back matter" (reference bibliography of works cited). The body of the paper should be neither shorter than the lower limits not longer than the upper limits. Filibustering will get you nowhere.

Review the Huston (2010) article listed under reading assignments. W.docxdaynamckernon
Review the Huston (2010) article listed under reading assignments. Which skills described for the Nurse Leader in the year 2020 are important now? Explain your rationale and provide an example from your practice setting (or from your prelicensure program) to support it.
This is the article:
eynote speaker at the conference, American
nursing professor and former president of
the international honour society of nursing,
Sigma Theta Tau, Carol Huston, painted a
picture of a brave new nursing world in 2020,
in her opening presentation,
Preparing nurse
leaders for 2020.
She outlined eight leadership competencies
every nurse leader would need in the 2020. The
first was a global perspective. “Every health care
issue has to be looked at from a global perspective.
We used to think pandemics were confined
to developing countries. We now know they are
just one short flight away.”
There was a more urgent need for international
standards for basic nursing education.
The nursing shortage was one of the most
serious threats to global health, she said, and
it would get significantly worse before it got
better. Nurse migration was a global problem.
(See news p7.)
The second leadership competency was better
use of technology to connect people. Technology
had driven so many changes already in health
care but knowledge and information acquisition
and distribution was going to multiply exponentially.
“Forty percent of what we know today will
be obsolete in three years,” Huston said.
She listed a range of technological developments
that would have a major impact on health
care in the next 20 years. By 2030 diagnostic
body scans, which could identify underlying
pathology, would become part of showering.
Improvements in body scanning technology
would mean there would be no need for invasive
surgery or tests. “Nano bots” circulating in the
blood stream would identify disease processes
and begin to repair them. Gene therapy would
mean what was now untreatable would be treatable
and could see cancer abolished completely
within two decades. Stem cell therapy would
eliminate the need for organ transplants “as we
will grow new organs. It is predicted we will be
able to grow heart, kidneys and livers by 2020.
There are already clinical trials underway growing
new teeth – instead of dentures you would
grow you own new teeth.”
Merging of the human and the machine would
advance significantly and by 2020 there would
be pancreatic pacemakers for diabetics and the
technology to enable blind people to see and
deaf people to hear.
Robotics would continue to develop, with
physical service robots which could wash patients
and help feed and carry patients. There
was the potential for the use of robots in
therapeutic roles. Paro, a robotic seal developed
in Japan, responded to patting by closing its

Research Paper Using Word This assignment has two goals.docx
1. Research Paper Using Word
This assignment has two goals: 1) have students increase their
understanding of
ethical issues related to the use of information technology
through research, and 2)
learn to correctly use the tools and techniques within Word to
format a research paper,
including use of available References and citation tools. These
skills will be valuable
throughout a student’s academic career. The paper will require
a title page, NO
abstract, three to five full pages of content with incorporation
of a minimum of 3 external
resources from credible sources and a Works Cited/References
page. Wikipedia and
similar general information sites, blogs or discussion groups are
not considered
creditable sources for a research project. No more than 10% of
the paper may be in the
form of a direct citation from an external source.
A list of topics from which students can choose is provided
below.
Topics for Research Paper
The focus of the paper should be on the following:
1. how information technology supports or makes possible
biometrics and its
2. various implementations, and potential ethical and privacy
issues related to the
use of biometrics.
2. how information technology supports or makes possible the
development of
artificial intelligence (AI) and intelligent agents (such as Siri,
Cortana, etc.) and
potential ethical and privacy issues related to AI.

development of
robots as intelligent as humans, smart machines and the IoT,
What potential
benefits and risks can/will robots introduce?

to information
technology that is of special interest to you but one that is not
in the list above, request
4. permission from your instructor before selecting this alternate
topic.
Writing Quality for the Research Paper
* All Grammar, Verb Tenses, Pronouns, Spelling, Punctuation,
and Writing Competency
should be without error.
* Be particularly careful about mis-matching a noun and
pronoun. For example, if you
say "A person does this…" then do not use "their" or "they"
when referring to that
person. "Person" is singular; "their" or "they" is plural.
* Remember: there is not their, your is not you're, its is not it's,
too is not to or two, site
is not cite, and who should be used after an individual, not that.
For example, "the
person WHO made the speech" not "the person THAT made the
speech."
* In a professional paper one does not use contractions
(doesn't, don't, etc.) and one
does not use the personal I, you or your. Use the impersonal as
in the previous
sentence. It is more business-like to say "In a professional paper
one should not use
contractions," rather than saying, "In a professional paper you
don't use contractions."
*Remember: spell-check, then proofread. Better yet, have a
friend or colleague read it
before submitting it. Read it out loud to yourself. Read it as if
you are submitting it to
your boss.
5. You can find instructions on how to use the References tool in
Word on a PC or
on a Mac in the separate file attached here.
