The document discusses Sarah Dunaway's senior project of raising money for the Northeast Georgia Cancer Foundation. The foundation helps cancer patients in 15 counties with basic needs like food, housing, utilities, and medication. It was founded by local physicians who saw patients struggling financially after treatment. Qualifications for assistance include living in the service area, being at least 18 years old, and having a cancer diagnosis. Sarah chose to support this foundation because she lost family members to cancer and wants to help others battling the disease.

Wendy Noe, education coordinator for the Central Indiana Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® presents an overview of breast cancer information, facts and advances in treatment.
A recent cancer study by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, has suggested that two-thirds of cancer cases are primarily due to random cell mutations. The other third are thought to arise due to environmental factors, lifestyle and inherited genes.1
Each day, billions of cells are replenished within our bodies by the dividing of our stem cells. With each cell division, there is a danger of DNA mutation which ultimately leads to a cell becoming cancerous. The body may then continue to split the cancerous cells and produce more cancerous cells through this replication process.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

For my senior project I chose to do a foundation to raise money the Northeast
Georgia cancer foundation. A non profit organization who's goal is to help the financial problem
of cancer for patients that meet the eligibility to need help. This foundation helps the patients
with the basic needs help. The foundation helps the patients with the basic needs for example
food, housing, utilities, and medication. (www.cancerfoundationofnega.com) The drive behind
this organization being founded was because the physicians of the area noticed after treating a
large number of patients that they need financial help. The physicians realized when someone
gets cancer the family suffers emotionally but also financially. The organization focuses on the
area they take care of there people. Some of the qualifications you have to meet include you
living in the service area of Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Hart, Jackson,
Madison, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Putnam, Stephens, and Walton counties. The patients
must be at least 18 years old. Must have a cancer certified diagnosis by a healthcare provider.
The patient has to be within a 3 month post treatment period or be receiving active chemotherapy
or radiation hormone therapy. The patient has to have a household income of less or equal to
200% of the 2011 Federal Poverty Limits(www.cancerfoundationofnega.com) There are many
different types of cancer out there and many different centers to treat patients.
The American cancer society estimates for breast cancer in U.S. For 2011. There are
about 57,650 new cases of cases of invasive breast cancer in just women alone. There are about
2. 39,520 deaths from breast cancer in women. Other then skin cancer breast cancer is the most
common among women in the U.S. It is the second leading cause of a cancer death in women
right after lung cancer. The chances of a woman having a case of invasive breast cancer
sometime during her life in about less then one in eight, but the chance of actually dying from
breast cancer is about 1 in 35. Death rates have been going down this can result from finding the
cancer in the early stages. (Americancancerfund.org) what causes breast cancer ? Changes in
DNA could cause normal breast cells to become cancer DNA. Breast cancer can be caused by
DNA changes that have been inherited could increase the risk for developing cancer and cause
the cancer that run in some families. Because it keeps getting inherited from generation to
generation the cells change. DNA changes happen in single breast cells during a woman’s life
rather then passed down to her. Breast cancer can not be prevented completely but there are way
to lower the risk. Limit alcohol use, exercise regularly and stay at a healthy weight, have a lower
risk of getting breast cancer woman who choose no to breast feed for even several months can
lower the risk on getting breast cancer. (www.Americancancerfund.org)
Lung cancer there are more than 400,000 lung cancer survivors in the U.S. today. What
can cause small cell lung cancer ? Random, asbestos and the most obvious way is tobacco
smoke. Only 5% of all deaths from lung cancer and been from outside air pollution. Certain
vitamins there have been two studies that have found that smokers who took Beta Carotene
supplements actually had an increased risk of lung cancer. The results of these studies suggest
that smokers should not take the supplements, because it can increase your risk of getting lung
cancer. A way to reduce your risk of lung cancer is not to be around smokers so you will not
breathe there smoke and also do not smoke yourself.(www.cancercenter.com) When hospitals
tell you there is nothing more to be done that just means there is nothing more that particular
3. hospital can do for you. At the Cancer centers of America they use the latest diagnostic and
treatment technology to treat even the most severe cases of lung cancer.(www.cancercenter.com)
Patients that have got cancer and survived can endure long term effects that could be
physical or emotional. Fatigue can be changed that’s one of the most common symptoms during
active treatment. It is a feeling of the lack of energy always being tired. There are two types of
fatigue, acute fatigue is a short time of feeling tired (www.livestrong.org). Chronic fatigue is a
feeling of constantly always feeling tired and never goes away completely(www.livestrong.org).
Not every cancer survivor experiences this issue with fatigue.
I specifically chose to help raise money for cancer to help out. Because I have had family
members that I lost to cancer. Even though I personally didn’t support them financially I helped
them fight by always being positive even when in my heart I really was scared about it. I really
didn’t know if everything was going to be ok when I was scared I just stayed strong for them.
Them having cancer was hard to watch them struggle like they did everyday of their lives and to
watch them go through pain they endured just trying to walk around and put a smile on no matter
what. When you have cancer simple task are not that simple and easy anymore. I think it’s a
great thing that there are organizations out there to help. Especially the organization that I have
chosen to donate the money I raise to. Im thankful for the cancer treatment centers that’s helped
out my family even though they did lose there life because of this awful disease they battled hard
and the doctors were there every step of the way. These centers are saving lives everyday and I
thank all the people who work hard to fight against any type of cancer.
