a. It isnecessarytohave one administrative full time professional workingforTILO.Hisduties
comprise of communicatingwiththe industries,followinguponthe studentrequestsandorganizing
paper-workforthe internshipprogramforall the students. Since we believethisisamonumental
challenge,we needafull-time employee whois
1. Good withcommunication(inAmharicandsome English)
2. Motivatedandpatient.
3. Able tobuildinter-personalrelationshipsandtrust.
b. We alsowill needanoffice assistant whoisincharge of maintenance of officeequipmentand

SUB: ActionPlan on Institutional Collaboration
The firstand the foremostaspectof institutionalcollaborationshouldbe researchbased.Forthis
purpose,identifyingthe relevantresearchopportunitieselsewhere andapproachingthe foreign/local
institutionsforcollaborationsare of the primarysignificance.The approachwithwhichthisneedstobe
done ispresentedbelow.
1. IdentifyResearchOpportunities
The firsttask is toidentifyresearchopportunities.Thisneedstobe done at the individuallevel. For
example,anyoneinCivilorMechanical Engineeringcanbe interestedinaresearchprojectrelatedto
environmentif itmatchestheirinterests.
For the facultymembers,Isuggestreferringtothe followinguniversities:
 GhentUniversity,Belgium...whichoffersextensive collaborationwithforeignuniversities.
 LeuvenUniversity,Belgium...doesactiveresearchinthe fieldof sustainable energy.
 FlemishInstitute of TechnologicalResearch...Offersprojectsonenergyconservation,solar
power,sustainableenergy,vehicularemissions,andtransportmodelling.
 IITs inIndiaofferextensiveresearchopportunitiesinthe fieldsof Civil Engineering,Structural
Engineering,Electrical andMechanical Engineering.
 IISCBangalore isa totallyresearchinstitute focusedondevelopingnew ideasforengineering
research.
 OtherinstitutesexistinUniversitiesinGermanyandUK.
2. Write collaborationproposals
Approachingthe institute/institutionisthe nextstep.Forthispurpose,the staff needstobe
adequatelysufficientinEnglishandinTechnical ReportWriting.Grammarandpresentationof the
reportshowshowprofessional youare. So,the staff needstobe aware and shouldbe motivatedtotrain
themselvesinEnglishandcommunicateeffectivelywithforeignresearchers.
For thispurpose, the staff needstogetfamiliarwiththe accentsandconnotationsof the Europeanand
Americanpeople. Hence,Ihave givenIELTSmaterial, whichcouldbe now available inthe Technology
Library. The staff whoare willingtoimprove theircommunicative ability withforeignpeople are
encouragedtoborrowthese IELTS material fromthe libraryandimprove theirEnglishwriting, reading,
listeningandspeakingskills.
3. Academic Aspectsof Collaboration:
The other formsof institutionalcollaborationinvolve administrative,academicandlearningfromthe
establisheduniversitiesinorganizinganacademiccurriculum.Istronglyencourage the department
coordinatorstoidentifythe coursesofferedbywellestablisheduniversities,the sequence inwhichthe
labcoursesare offeredinconjunctionwiththe theorycourses,andtryto identifythe missingand
relevantaspectsandbringthemtothe notice of the AcademicCommittee. Organizingexaminationsis
alsoa taskthat needstobe duplicatedfromthe well establisheduniversities, especiallyinIndiaorin
UnitedStates.
TIME LINE:
Task 1 : Needstobe immediatelyputintoaction. All the staff needstocome upwiththe relevant
institutionsthatdoresearchintheirfieldsof interests. Asachallenge,eachstaff membercansubmita
listof potential researchcollaborations, eitherinEthiopiaorinthe restof the world.Thiscan be done
within2 weeks.Asaguide,the staff canstart withthe fore-mentionedinstitutions.
Task 2: Thisissimplyaself-improvementforcommunication,andthisneedstobe done byindividual
motivationtowrite betterproposalsandcommunicateeffectively.
Task-3: Thiscan be givenmore time till the endof thissemester, since identifyingthe curriculumdetails
and the administrativestructure needsmore time tolearnandimplement.
Sincerely,
Dr. Madhava Madireddy,
Coordinator,

To: AcademicCommittee, College ofEngineeringandTechnology, DillaUniversity. SUB: ActionPlan on Institutional Collaboration The firstand the foremostaspectof institutionalcollaborationshouldbe researchbased.Forthis purpose, identifyingthe relevantresearchopportunitieselsewhere andapproachingthe foreign/local institutionsforcollaborationsare of the primarysignificance. The approachwithwhichthisneedstobe done ispresentedbelow. 1. IdentifyResearchOpportunities The firsttask is toidentifyresearchopportunities.Thisneedstobe done at the individuallevel. For example, anyoneinCivilorMechanical Engineeringcanbe interestedinaresearchprojectrelatedto environmentif itmatchestheirinterests. For the facultymembers,Isuggestreferringtothe followinguniversities:  GhentUniversity,Belgium...whichoffersextensive collaborationwithforeignuniversities.  LeuvenUniversity,Belgium...doesactiveresearchinthe fieldof sustainable energy.  FlemishInstitute of TechnologicalResearch...Offersprojectsonenergyconservation,solar power, sustainableenergy, vehicularemissions, andtransportmodelling.  IITs inIndiaofferextensiveresearchopportunitiesinthe fieldsof Civil Engineering,Structural Engineering,Electrical andMechanical Engineering.  IISCBangalore isa totallyresearchinstitute focusedondevelopingnew ideasforengineering research.  OtherinstitutesexistinUniversitiesinGermanyandUK. 2. Write collaborationproposals Approachingthe institute/institutionisthe nextstep.Forthispurpose, the staff needstobe adequatelysufficientinEnglishandinTechnical ReportWriting.Grammarandpresentationof the reportshowshowprofessional youare. So,the staff needstobe aware and shouldbe motivatedtotrain themselvesinEnglishandcommunicateeffectivelywithforeignresearchers. For thispurpose, the staff needstogetfamiliarwiththe accentsandconnotationsof the Europeanand Americanpeople. Hence,Ihave givenIELTSmaterial, whichcouldbe now available inthe Technology Library. The staff whoare willingtoimprove theircommunicative ability withforeignpeople are encouragedtoborrowthese IELTS material fromthe libraryandimprove theirEnglishwriting, reading, listeningandspeakingskills.

    3. Academic AspectsofCollaboration: The other formsof institutionalcollaborationinvolve administrative, academicandlearningfromthe establisheduniversitiesinorganizinganacademiccurriculum.Istronglyencourage the department coordinatorstoidentifythe coursesofferedbywellestablisheduniversities, the sequence inwhichthe labcoursesare offeredinconjunctionwiththe theorycourses, andtryto identifythe missingand relevantaspectsandbringthemtothe notice of the AcademicCommittee. Organizingexaminationsis alsoa taskthat needstobe duplicatedfromthe well establisheduniversities, especiallyinIndiaorin UnitedStates. TIME LINE: Task 1 : Needstobe immediatelyputintoaction. All the staff needstocome upwiththe relevant institutionsthatdoresearchintheirfieldsof interests. Asachallenge, eachstaff membercansubmita listof potential researchcollaborations, eitherinEthiopiaorinthe restof the world.Thiscan be done within2 weeks.Asaguide, the staff canstart withthe fore-mentionedinstitutions. Task 2: Thisissimplyaself-improvementforcommunication,andthisneedstobe done byindividual motivationtowrite betterproposalsandcommunicateeffectively. Task-3: Thiscan be givenmore time till the endof thissemester, since identifyingthe curriculumdetails and the administrativestructure needsmore time tolearnandimplement. Sincerely, Dr. Madhava Madireddy, Coordinator, Office of Institutional Collaboration, TechnologyIndustryLinkage office, School of Technology, DillaUniversity.
