2. INTRODUCTION
What is ENERGY ?
Energy is defined as the ability to do work. Energy can be found in many things and
can take different forms. For example :- kinetic energy is the energy of motion, and
potential energy is energy due to an object’s position or structure.
Scientists define energy as the ability to do work. Modern civilization is possible
because people have learned how to change energy from one form to another and
then use it to do work.
Energy resources are all forms of fuels used in the modern world, either for heating,
generation of electrical energy, or for other forms of energy conversion processes.
Energy resources can be roughly classified in three categories: renewable, fossil, and
nuclear.
3. DIFFERENT FORMS OF
ENERGY
1. RENEWABLE ENERGY : It
is the energy that comes from a
source that won’t run out. They
are natural and self-replenishing
and usually have a low- or zero-
carbon footprint. Examples of
renewable energy sources include
wind power, solar power.
2. NON RENEWABLE
ENERGY : It comes from
sources that will run out or will
not be replenished in our
lifetimes—or even in many, many
lifetimes. Most nonrenewable
energy sources are fossil fuels:
coal, petroleum, and natural gas.

7. ADVANTAGES OF RENEWABLE
SOURCES OF ENERGY
1) A Fuel Supply That Never Runs Out.
2) Zero Carbon Emissions.
3) Cleaner Air and Water.
4) A Cheaper Form of Electricity.
6) Renewable Energy Creates New Jobs.
7) Higher Capital Costs.
8) Electricity Production Can Be Unreliable.
8. DISADVANTAGES OF
RENEWABLE SOURCES OF
ENERGY
1. Renewable Energy is not available round the clock.
2 .The efficiency of renewable technologies are low.
3. The initial cost of renewable energy is high.
4. Renewable Energy sites require a lot of space.
5. Renewable Energy devices need recycling.
9. ADVANTAGES OF NONRENEWABLE
SOURCES OF ENERGY
1. Non-renewable resources are high in
energy.
2. Huge profits can be generated in the
mining of coal, selling of oil or the
construction of natural gas pipelines.
3. These resources are easy to use whether in
a home or anywhere else.
10. DISADVANTAGES OF NONRENEWABLE
SOURCES OF ENERGY
1.They are a finite resource. Fossil fuels
are coal, oil, and natural gas.
2.They pollute the environment.
3.They are unreliable.
4.They damage the earth.
