Reiki Symbols
There are five symbols in the Usui Reiki attunement process. Four of these symbols are also used
in doing the hands on and distant treatments or healings. A person uses their finger to draw these
symbols on their clients and students (Desy, 2012).
The Cho Ku Rei
Cho Ku Rei means power symbol or Generation of Power. It came from Tibet. It can be drawn
clockwise or counterclockwise. Its intent is a light switch. Its purposes are for manifestation,
increased power, accelerated healing and healing catalyst. It is mostly used in first, second, and
third chakra but it can be used for the entire body. It mainly focuses on physical healing (Desy,
2012).
The Sei He Kei
Sei He Kei means harmony symbol or emotional health cleansing. It came from Japan. Its
intention is purification. Its purposes are for cleansing, protection, mental and emotional healing.
It aligns and cleanses the chakras, but this symbol is also used to clear anything. It mainly
focuses on emotional or psychological healing (Desy, 2012).
The Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen
Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen means connection symbol or distance healing, healing the past. Also, it
means “There are no limits of time and space” or “No past, no present, no future.” It came from
Japan. Its intention is timelessness. Its purposes are distant healing, the past, present, future,
healing karma, and spiritual connection. This symbol gives access to records of all thoughts that
happened in the past, present and future (Desy, 2012).
The Dai Ko Myo
Dai Ko Myo means master symbol or healing of the soul. It came from Tibet. Its intention is
enlightenment. Its purposes are empowerment, soul healing, and oneness. It is the most powerful
and important symbol because it vibrates a person’s heart and soul or spiritual body. It goes to
the source of the illness or disease and may heal it. It is used to transmits the attunement into the
students (Desy, 2012).
The Raku
Raku means completion symbol or grounding Reiki. It came from Japan. Its intention is
grounding. Its purposes are Kundalini healing, hara connection, and chakra alignment. Raku is
used for the attunement only and not for healing sessions. This symbol is used for the
practitioner or master to disconnect from the student’s energy field after the attunement is
complete (Desy, 2012).
