The Northwest region of Bulgaria includes the western parts of the Danube and Balkan natural areas, between the Iskar River and Timok River. It has a varied terrain of plains and the Stara Planina mountains. Key industries include mining of iron ore, lead, zinc, and copper, as well as gypsum and limestone extraction. The region has a moderate continental climate with average temperatures in July of 26°C and 0°C in January. It contains the towns of Vidin, Vratsa, and Montana, which are economic and cultural centers with developed industries such as machinery, textiles, and construction materials production.
