The educator implemented a fish project in the classroom after getting approval from the ECE and understanding the children's interests in fish. The author worked with the South Asian Women's Rights Organization (SAWRO) on the project and found their assistance helpful despite various challenges. I always enjoy it when the video resource is from a classroom. I remember watching another video about Robert Recio’s class for my Early Literacy course—he is such an awesome teacher, and it is so fun to watch his example! He obviously really cares about the kids. I love how he takes the time to treat them with respect as individuals, builds strong, trust-based relationships with them, and creates a “family” atmosphere within the classroom. For my post I will focus on how he models responding to the children as individuals, as well as how he uses positive discipline.
Mr. Recio modeled responding to the children respectfully as individuals by taking an interest in their interests and needs, speaking the children’s home language, and taking the time to read their cues and find the causes of their behavior. Mr. Recio talked about how he consciously takes an active interest in the children’s interests, and how he uses this as a tool to get to know them and build strong relationships. He also greets every single child and their parents in Spanish or English, depending on their home language. In doing so, he helps the parent feel more comfortable in the classroom environment, encourages them to open up, and shows the child that their home language is valued at school, too. Again, this adds to a strong foundation of trust in his relationships with the kids. One of the most important things he does in the classroom is acknowledging that “there’s always a reason” behind challenging behavior (Laureate Education, n.d.). Having true respect for the children involves understanding this, tuning into children’s feelings, and seeking out the root causes of challenging behavior. Mr. Recio demonstrated this through his interactions with Damien, whom he noticed had appeared tired when he entered the classroom that morning.
Mr. Recio demonstrates positive discipline through giving the children meaningful explanations for rules and limits, modeling, and consistency in enforcing fair consequences. During circle time, Mr. Recio used lots of repetition while reminding the children to raise their hands. He also talked about explaining the reason for this rule (it’s hard to hear when everyone talks at once), and modeling it with the assistant teacher. Patience and consistency were key to his enforcing rules. Mr. Recio also demonstrated consistency in his use of fair consequences. During circle, he reminded the children of consequences from the day before, without singling out any particular child. Later, when Damien was yelling at his friend in the block center, Mr. Recio showed took the time to respectfully talk to him about his behavior, showing warmth while reminding him of the classroom boundaries. He also helped Damien practice empathy by asking him to consider how his behavior made his friends feel.
It was very clear to see in the video how the relationship of trust that Mr. Recio has built with each child really impacts the children’s behavior and the w.
International practicum in hawaii - Alix
In 2014, students from Lakeland College Alberta, Canada flew to Hawaii for their International Practicum. These students are enrolled in the school of human services and studying programs such as Child and Youth Care, Educational Assistant and Early Learning and Child Care. The students were asked to create presentations to illustrate their experiences.

Penny.Plan.Arcos.Tie Placement Presentation
Penny spent a month in the Northeast of Brazil working with the organization Plan and the host agency Arcos. The original brief for the placement was to promote the ‘Communicating Children’s Rights’ project, a project run by the children from the local community Cabo. A secondary outcome was to give the children who had taken part in the programme a higher social standing within the municipality of Cabo. If these children, who had learnt so much from the programme, were looked on favourably by the community they would be able to effect change much more successfully.
This appeared on the face of it to be a very straightforward project. Penny thought they would be able to raise awareness of the scheme quite easily and believed it would be as simple as promoting it in the local schools within Cabo. This wasn’t the case. Penny found the placement challenging, but extremely rewarding at the same time. Penny made a tremendous difference to the organisation Plan and to the children involved with the many projects that Plan offers.

Reflection
This reflection discusses the author's experience completing an assignment on meeting the needs of children and families. The author learned about fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) for the first time through this assignment and was shocked to learn the effects of alcohol consumption during pregnancy. The special needs course taught the author a lot and provided important knowledge that will help in understanding issues like FAS that early childhood educators may encounter. The author overcame a lack of initial knowledge on the topic by doing additional research online and was motivated by their interest in learning about this new subject matter.
Self evalualuation
This self-evaluation discusses the important role of an early childhood educator in interacting with children, parents, and the community. It emphasizes teaching moral values, respect, love and patience to children. The evaluation also notes challenges with utilizing strategies due to a language difficulty as English is a second language, but hopes to overcome this through continued practice. The guidance subject and log assignment helped provide an understanding of child development and learning effective guidance strategies.

Over 45 young people and 38 volunteers have participated so far in restoring three wildlife sites. The project has helped build skills and confidence among young people and volunteers, and has engaged over 7,000 community members through public events.
Happy Palace School 2016
The students at Happy Palace School in Pakistan collaborated with Scars Dale Middle School in the US on a project to increase awareness about the growing garbage problem in their community. They created posters and held meetings with parents and teachers to educate them on proper garbage disposal and reuse of solid waste. The students also organized an art and crafts exhibition to teach methods for recycling solid waste. Their goal was to make their city and school cleaner and reduce environmental pollution.

Penny.Plan.Arcos.Tie Placement Presentation
Penny spent a month in the Northeast of Brazil working with the organization Plan and the host agency Arcos. The original brief for the placement was to promote the ‘Communicating Children’s Rights’ project, a project run by the children from the local community Cabo. A secondary outcome was to give the children who had taken part in the programme a higher social standing within the municipality of Cabo. If these children, who had learnt so much from the programme, were looked on favourably by the community they would be able to effect change much more successfully.
This appeared on the face of it to be a very straightforward project. Penny thought they would be able to raise awareness of the scheme quite easily and believed it would be as simple as promoting it in the local schools within Cabo. This wasn’t the case. Penny found the placement challenging, but extremely rewarding at the same time. Penny made a tremendous difference to the organisation Plan and to the children involved with the many projects that Plan offers.

Loren's development appears typical according to the developmental milestones. At 4 months, she was meeting intellectual milestones like smiling at familiar people. At 6 months, she was healthy and developing typically. By 9 months, she enjoyed crawling and was physically active. At 12 months, she could utter single words which is also typical developmentally. Now at 2 years old, she is progressing like a typical toddler in the physical, social/emotional, and intellectual domains.
Sawro reflection about 2 agencies
The assignment on understanding and communicating with families was a valuable learning experience. The author worked with the South Asian Women's Rights Organization (SAWRO) on the project and found their assistance helpful despite various challenges. The author enjoyed learning about the work of other groups, including a presentation on BOOST, an organization working to prevent child abuse through education and campaigns in Toronto. Another presentation discussed the Scarborough Women's Centre and its programs supporting women, especially those with disabilities experiencing isolation and family violence. As an early childhood educator, the author aims to support children and families through organizations like SAWRO that help newcomers with services such as computer training, English lessons, and sewing classes to gain employment.

- 1. I always tried to maintain a cordial, respectful and nice relationship with the parents, ECEs and children. Before implementing my fish project I informed and explained my ECE about my fish project and got his go ahead to get the project underway. I then tried to understand and get to know the interests of the children about fish and fish project. Then in order to obtain the consent of the parents, I handed over the rationale to them about my project. When I received overwhelming response and feedback from the children and parents, I began my project. The method of communication had contributed enormously and had created respectful relationship with the children, ECEs and parents. While doing this project I followed the Reggio Emilia (emergent curriculum) Approach because it collaborates working together with children, teacher, parents, community. I came to learn from children how they learn using the Reggio Emilia (emergent curriculum) Approach’s Image which reveals, child is competent, curious, Problem solver, resourceful. The project also showed the video film “Finding Nemo” to the children using the method of Reggio Emilia (emergent curriculum) Approach, documentation. The project needed me to research on how to make the project more and more enjoyable, effective and beneficial to the children. The project showed various aspects related to curriculum through it’s visual approach showed in a overhead TV and was enjoyed by the children and ECEs. The project was a great learning experience for myself and for the children. The learning about the project was valuable as a citizen of the world because the fish project acquainted the children for the first time with the fish, the life cycle of the fish and real bones of fish. As a citizen of the world we cannot ignore this wonderful creature of the God “the fish” and the benefit of this creature for the human beings. Therefore learning about this project was valuable as a citizen of the world for these children.
