Recount text merupakan salah satu jenis teks
dalam bahasa Inggris yang menceritakan
kembali kejadian-kejadian atau pengalaman-
pengalaman yang telah dialami di masa lampau
sesuai urutan kejadian (chronological order).
Selain itu teks ini mempunyai tujuan untuk
memberitahukan sebuah peristiwa, kejadian,
atau kegiatan yang telah terjadi.

1. Personal Recount Text : menceritakan
pengalaman pribadi penulis
2. Historical Recount Text : menceritakan sejarah
atau suatu peristiwa yang telah terjadi
3. Biography : menceritakan biografi seseorang

4. Struktur
1. Orientation : berisi pengenalan dengan memberikan informasi
tentang siapa, apa, di mana, dan kapan peristiwa atau kegiatan itu
yang telah terjadi di masa lampau.
2. Events : merupakan runtutan peristiwa yang terjadi, biasanya
disampaikan dalam urutan secara kronologis (chronological order)
seperti, “In the first day, I …, And in the next day …, And In the last
day …, Then..
3. Re-orientation : yaitu pengulangan pengenalan yang ada
di orientation dan events yang diceritakan. Bisa dibilang pada
bagian ini adalah kesimpulan secara keseluruhan teks diikuti juga
dengan perasaan penulis terhadap pengalamannya.

5. Unsur Kebahasaan
 Ditulis dalam bentuk lampau (past tense): simple past, past continous, past perfect
tenses

6.  Menggunakan kata penghubung seperti: next, later,
when, then, after, before, first, at the same time, as
soon as she left, late on Friday
 Recount text menceritakan kejadian yang banyak
menggunakan action verbs (look, go, change), linking
verb (was, were, saw, heard) dan
ditambahkan adverb untuk mendeskripsikan lebih
jelas.
 Menggunakan personal pronoun (I,we) untuk personal
recount

7. Contoh
The last semester’s vacation was an unexpected holiday. Because I didn’t have
any vacation schedule. But, my father gave me a surprise. I was very happy and
excited to visit my uncle who had not met for two years.
I prepared everything needed to go on vacation. After that, dad invited me to go to
the terminal because we did leave at 05.00 pm. The trip that must be taken to
Panyabungan was around 13 hours. Along the way, I saw such an amazing view from
the bus window. The next day, we arrived at 08.00 am. I didn’t expect them to gather to
greet us. On that day, I had to take a rest to freshen my body.
On the second day there, I did take by my uncle to go to the garden to harvest oranges.
The location of the garden was not far from Uncle’s house. Arriving there, I was happy
to be able to pick oranges directly from the tree. The oranges that had been picked
were sold and some were for souvenirs. On the third day, I and uncle went to the river
to take a bath. I did amazed to see the water that was so clear. There, I found many
people busy washing and bathing. The holiday was over, I had to go back to Medan to
continue the routine activities. While there, I got a lot of experience and visited the
family that I had never met before.
Although it was a short vacation, it was a memorable holiday for me. I got a lot of
experience there.
