Pauline Pressy was a top student in my course, “Comparative Economic Systems,” in the Spring
2016 semester.
Among 30 students, Pauline’s performance was outstanding with respect to every aspect of the
course. Specifically, two presentations were required, in addition to three essay exams. One
presentation was based on assigned readings, the other on an academic article of the student’s
choice. In her first presentation, Pauline reviewed definitions and provided context for the
assigned question before explaining her answer. Her approach was similar in presenting the
academic article, and was especially effective, as other students had not read this article. In both
cases, her oral presentation successfully engaged her fellow students, and was supplemented by a
detailed outline. She also related the content of her presentations to previous class discussions.
