I am pleased to write a recommendation for Gibran Otway who was in my 2012 Fall, 302 Scientific and
Technical writing class. It was a pleasure to have Gibran in my class.
Gibran was a very good student and could always be counted on to contribute intelligently to the class
discussion. He is a natural born leader and his personality allowed him to connect and assist with other
students.
Gibran was very concerned about improving his writing skills. Although he was majoring in the sciences,
he understood that writing skills are also needed to be successful. He made time to speak to me outside of
class, in order to pinpoint the areas in which he needed the most work. He was very attentive to my
suggestions and worked diligently to use my comments to his advantage. Because of his hard work, he
was able to earn a B+ for both the final proposal paper and for the entire course.
I also had the opportunity to speak with Gibran not only about class work, but about his goals and future
aspirations. It was a pleasure to get to know him on a personal level. He has a great sense of humor, is
bright and very intelligent. He is highly motivated to succeed both in his career and his personal life.
I wholeheartedly recommend Gibran as a prospective medical school student. Besides my work as a
writer and instructor, I have also been a pediatric registered nurse for the past 25 years. I have had the
opportunity to work with many health professionals. In my opinion, Gibran possesses not only the
intellect to succeed as a physician, but more importantly, the character and interpersonal skills needed to
competently provide care. I can easily envision him as a highly capable and caring physician one day.
