Douglas Monteiro worked with Dr. Ayala at Old Dominion University for 12 weeks during the summer of 2015 as part of an academic training program. Dr. Ayala's research focuses on multiphase flows, turbulence, particle transport in fluids, and computational modeling. Douglas assisted with a study of erosion in pipelines caused by particle interaction with pipe walls. Douglas performed literature reviews, numerical simulations matching published results, and extended simulations to specific cases of interest. By the end of the 12 weeks, Douglas and Dr. Ayala had produced a scientific article on their work that was presented at a conference. Dr. Ayala recommends Douglas highly, praising his work ethic, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
