Website Musts: How to Define Everything That Your Website Needs to Do Anne Stefanyk
Let me tell you a story. Great projects start with a strong user story, only a story cannot stand alone – enter the hero – the winning acceptance criteria. Projects need this criteria to provide a way to clearly demonstrate if your project and its team has indeed made the user story come to life. In this session, we show you how to craft no-fail user acceptance stories. Walk away with the confidence to outline the needs and requirements of your site and ensure that everyone in your organization get the results they’re looking for.

When building a new product or designing a new feature you always have a voice in the back of your mind whispering things such as: What if no one uses it? What if nobody really understands the value of what I am building? What if that thing I am designing becomes a total flop?
This presentation will give you simple and low time consuming techniques to ensure your product gets used. I will tell you how to find people to talk to, how to gather user stories to make sure you are designing the right features and a couple of ways to test you product.
Some feedback from the startup I gave the talk to:
"It was gold. Arthur was generous and giving everything away."
"Many easy-to-implement tips and nice “real world” examples :)"

Types of nonprofits:
There are many types of nonprofits. As I discussed, some are specific to providing direct services like feeding people experiencing homelessness; however, there are also organizations devoted just to fundraising for certain causes (e.g., Wounded Warrior Project, Susan G. Komen Foundation), to provide capacity building services to other nonprofits (e.g., many state-level organizations), and to advocate for others (e.g., lobbying organizations like the National Organization of Women). If you’re unsure about what an organization has to offer, just call them and ask! Many people who work in nonprofits are there to help any and all people, including those of you who want to volunteer.
Resources for volunteering:
- Volunteermatch.org: great collection of national, state, local, and virtual opportunities; also provides a list of nonprofits by subject area (anti-hunger, animal welfare, tutoring, etc.)
- Idealist.org: great collection of international, national, state, and local opportunities; also lists internships and jobs available with nonprofits.
- Hungervolunteer.org: national database on volunteer opportunities with anti-hunger organizations.
- Volunteer.dc.gov: resources and information on local volunteer opportunities (although not updated regularly. Best to check VolunteerMatch or Idealist first)
- Breadforthecity.org/volunteer/ : volunteer positions with Bread for the City. The organization does much more than just anti-hunger stuff including job readiness programs, resume writing, clothing assistance, and much more.
- Volunteer.capitalareafoodbank.org: also offers various volunteer opportunities including nutrition education, community gardening, and benefits outreach.
- Dccfh.org (DC Coalition for the Homeless): they don’t list any volunteer opportunities on their website but just reach out to them to see if they are in need of assistance.
- Humanerescuealliance.org/volunteer : DC’s animal humane shelters recently united to become the Humane Rescue Alliance of DC. They are often looking for volu ...

“You can't tell where you are, or why you're there, and the only certainty is absolute ambiguity.” –Tim O’Brien
Do you ever feel like this in your library? Are you overwhelmed by the flood of new technologies that seem to pop up faster than you can keep up with them? Do you feel like your role is ambiguous when it comes to helping your users find and master the technologies that could actually be of use to them?
Believe it or not, technology doesn’t have to be a battlefield.
This session will focus on the technologies that your users bring in to your libraries, and how those technologies can be used as launch pads into the library services that you are already providing. We’ll talk about smart phones, especially iPhone and Android devices, e-readers such as the Kindle and Nook, and various types of mp3 players and other gadgets. We’ll also cover some of the expectations that these devices create, and learn ways that library staff can meet them. We’ll also talk about some trending technologies, e.g. location-based tools, QR codes, etc, and discuss how libraries can utilize them to serve their patrons.

Sex, Violence, and "Hail Mary": Censorship in the Public LibraryAhniwa Ferrari
This paper will focus on two major issues concerning censorship. First and foremost, it will examine the definition or definitions of censorship in different contexts, as well as examples of the different types of censorship that take place regularly. Secondly, it will examine the role of the library, particularly, in the use of and fight against censorship, and will speak to the library’s responsibility to its community, to itself, and to intellectual freedom.
8 Teaching and Learning Websites Mentioned by AASLAhniwa Ferrari
In the summer of 2009 the American Association of School Librarians honored 25 websites as the best for teaching and learning. These 25 websites foster the qualities of innovation, creativity, active participation, and collaboration. They are free, web-based sites that are user friendly and encourage a community of learners to explore and discover. Websites from this list that would be useful in a public library setting will be previewed at the March 2nd First Tuesday’s continuing education free webinar at 9 a.m.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Editor's Notes
Hello! My name is Ahniwa Ferrari, and as Kirsten mentioned, I’m the Online Resources Consultant at the Washington State Library. This means I get to work on fun projects like statewide virtual reference and database trials, and as you may have guessed, the Hard Times Resource Guide. As I’ve recently begun to cook (at my wife’s request) I have recipes on the brain, so I’ve tried to organize my thoughts today as a recipe that you might follow to create excellent resources guides of your own.
