William Wilson was a selfish and spoiled boy who wanted to control everything around him. He felt threatened by another boy who shared his name, as this boy was the only one who could challenge him. William believed he possessed a dark evil and wanted to rule others through force of will. He disliked his school but found it a place of quiet spirit. According to the text, William told the story from his perspective and tried to control situations when the head teacher was absent.
