This document discusses competition policy issues in the banking and insurance sectors of Eastern Europe and Central Asia in light of digital disruption. It notes that digitalization is transforming the traditional intermediary roles of banks and insurers. Competition authorities worldwide are carefully monitoring the impact of digital innovation in finance and addressing novel challenges raised by digitalization. The OECD held a roundtable in 2019 to facilitate an exchange of views between competition authorities on these issues. The newsletter will explore related topics through contributions from regional competition agencies and international experts.
