Richland County Bar Association Brings “Buildable Hours” Project to Legal Community
COLUMBIA, SC— The Richland County Bar Association is partnering with Central South Carolina
Habitat for Humanity for a project geared specifically towards the legal community.
“The Buildable Hours project started in Washington, DC and has been adopted by a large number of firms
from across the country,” said Ian McVey, Richland Co. Bar Association President. “We think this will
be a great opportunity for us to all come together to represent one side and that is the need for affordable
housing here in the Midlands.”
The Habitat build will start on Mon., May 20, 2013 in a downtown Columbia parking lot located at 1010
Lady St. Volunteers from various legal organizations will be working at the Vista location until Fri., May
24, 2013 before the house is transported to its final destination.
“Parking lot builds have become quite popular these days as many groups are eager to show the
community how they are giving back,” said Habitat Executive Director, Roy Kramer. “It’s always
exciting to bring people together like this because it really does put everyone on the same level the
moment they step foot on the construction site.”
The Richland Co. Bar Association hopes the centralized location will not only help raise more awareness,
but will also attract additional funding and support given its close proximity to downtown law firms.
Members of the media are invited to participate in the Buildable Hours project. For those interested in
swinging a hammer, please contact Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity immediately to reserve
