1. Rational Behind Our Chosen Equipment
Canon 5D Mark II:
Unlike last year, we have decided that we should go ahead and use a Digital
Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) Camera. Last year I had used a Panasonic HVX200,
ultimately it had its pros and cons. Its major advantage was the quality that it was
able to render- which was 1080p. My editor, however, did find it rather long and
time consuming to convert the files into its suitable format.
Using a DSLR this year has its advantages; it is much lighter, its complexity is not
as great as the Panasonic and we have a range of lenses available for our use in
order to strengthen the cinematography of our final edit.
Tripod Dolly:
This is another upgrade to the camera stabilisation that I used last year for my
opening sequence of a horror. Having a tripod dolly rather than just a tripod allows
room for creativity and brings forth a sense of professionalism. Complex shots are
much easier to accomplish with a tripod dolly as it manages with movement whilst
a simple tripod is rather static and could potentially loose the audiences’ attention.
2. Steadicam:
This is a new piece of equipment that has not been used previously. Out of all the
equipment being used this year, a steadicam would be the most difficult. It does
take some practice to master the equipment as you will need to know how to
stabilise the camera on the steadicam, how to manoeuvre whilst stabilising the
camera and lastly how to do all previously mentione whilst being aware of what
you are shooting.
