Ratan Tata was born in 1937 in Mumbai, India and raised by his grandmother. He developed an enthusiasm for cars from a young age and had his first job at Tata Steel after obtaining degrees from Cornell University and Harvard Business School. In 1991, he was appointed chairman of the Tata Group and led the company's acquisition of many foreign businesses while also growing Tata Consultancy Services. Known for his ethics and philanthropy, he established scholarship funds and donated most of his Tata Sons shares to charitable trusts.
