WORK EXPERIENCE
Independent Researcher Details can be discussed May/15-present
University Of Hard Knocks , Details upon request Jun/05-Jun/13
Cisco Systems, San Jose Software Engineer Jun/98-Jun/05
Catalyst 6500 family (L2-L7 Enterprise Switch/router) system software
1 Participated in the definition of a new enterprise networking paradigm for data
centers as a member of dynamic, geographically distributed team under tight schedule for
the existing product line. Further led the extensive research, successful design, and
implementation and testing of system management software components.
1 Member of hardware, and software team which defined and designed the system
and software architecture for a new controller board using a new RTOS environment.
Designed, implemented, tested and integrated intermediate GMAC, serial and DM device
2. drivers for the board which was having multi-core-CPUs.
1 Took ownership from central IOS team to research and write a design spec for an
important infrastructure component to support High Availability (HA) feature for
Cat6000 platform. Further delivered the base functionality for redundancy framework,
file system and configuration synchronization successfully and managed the successful
ownership transition of these to platform team.
1 Resolved various long standing system issues related to support the customer
requirements for widely installed product software (an important goal for Business Unit).
Catalyst 2948gL3 and 4908gL3 System Software
1 Implemented feature of TFTP net-booting for the switch family which involved
working with firmware startup code, driver and TCP/IP stack code.
1 Supported MPLS/VPN technology implemented in ucode (Firmware) for MMC
Network Processor (NP) chipset to make it work for this platform. This involved the
understanding and usage of Network design and system knowledge.
1 Lead a single-handedly effort to merge and integrate the code base of Catalyst
8500 products by new make-file infrastructure.
1 Defined new MIBs PORT-QOS_MIB and SWITCH-USAGE for a L3 switch.
Implemented the device specific and Entity MIBs for Catalyst 8540-CSR and later on did
the same for 8 port gig-card.
Cerent (Cisco), Petaluma Software Developer (Co-op/Intern) Jun/97-
Sep97, Apr/98-Jun/98
1 Implemented the software upgrade feature for in operation metro optical system.
1 Wrote an application to interface between network management software with
shelf controller software for a SONET based Metro optical switch. Wrote code to do
investigative work on ATM OAM cells for the identification of performance bottlenecks.
1 Researched, implemented and analyzed significant search algorithms used for IP
route table lookup functionality. This effort came as a dissertation for MS (CS) degree.
Guru Nanak Dev University, India Lecturer Oct/94-Mar/96
Ramgarhia Polytechnic, India Lecturer Aug/93-Jul/94
1 Taught and conducted labs in courses like Digital Electronics, Electronic
Devices Circuits, Network Analysis, Electrical & Electronic Instrumentation,
Microprocessor etc.
Punjab Wireless Limited, India Intern Jul/91-Aug/91
1 Participated in testing of Wireless products like two-way Handheld Phone
(walkie-talkie) and mobile sets (challengers) for Testing and Quality Assurance
Department.
