2. What Is Ramadhan??
Ramadhan is the ninth month of the
Islamic lunar calendar.
It is the blessed month in which
muslims fast from dawn to dusk.
It is the month in which Quran was
revealed to Prophet .
3. The word Ramadhan comes from the Arabic
root ramida or ar-ramad, which means
scorching heat or dryness and the arabic
word for fasting (Saum) literally means “to
refrain”-and it means not only refraining
from food and drink, but from evil actions,
thought, and words. Fasting is fard
(obligatory) for every adult Muslim, except
those who are ill, travelling, pregnant, going
through menstrual bleeding but they have to
make up their fast in the other days.
4. PURPOSE OF RAMADHAN
The month of Ramadhan is not like any other
month; its purpose is to rid man of those habits
which he has accumulated throughout the rest of
the year. It is a month that prepares man for the
remaining eleven months by teaching him
discipline and self control. This blessed month has
been sent by Allah to His bondsmen so that can
create a connection and draw closer to Allah by
reaping the many rewards that lie in this month. In
this month we will be given many opportunities to
reform ourselves and seek forgiveness for our bad
sins.
5. This is a month of reformation and self
reflection, where a believer can ponder of
over spirituality and piety and bring a
change for the better. The Prophet of Allah
has clearly stated:
Whoever does not give up lying and evil
actions, then Allah is not in need of his
leaving his food and drink” [Saheeh al-
Bukhari]
6. THE PURPOSE OF FASTING
It is a Pillar of Islam.
Attaining Taqwa(piety).
Allah, the Most High says:
“ O you who believe! Fasting has been
ordained for you as it was ordained for
those before you, so that you may attain
Taqwa.” (Soorah Al-Baqarah:183)
Spiritual Purification.
Restraint and Self Discipline.
7. Benefits of fasting
1. Fasting makes a muslim feel the taste of
hunger and thirst which helps him to
realize the experience of the poor and
sympathezis with those who are needy .
2. It is required that the individual gives up
not only food, and sexual relations, but
also all forms of evil speech (eg.
Lying,backbiting,slander,etc).
3. It has also been noted by medical experts
that fasting improves the physical health
in numerous ways.
4. Fasting trains the individual for jihad by
giving him a good course in self-control.
