The first Americans crossed into North America from Asia over a land bridge between Siberia and Alaska during the last ice age approximately 30,000 years ago. As the ice age ended, sea levels rose and the land bridge disappeared. Different groups adapted to their environments by developing different ways of life and cultures based on available natural resources. While cultures varied regionally, most Native American groups shared beliefs like nature having a spirit and only using necessary resources.
