- Welcome – I’m Brendon White, from ZXM. I work as an agile coach and like you experience stress within my day to day job. So I am going to run through a few ways that help me manage my stress levels and bring me back to my Zen. But first lets have a little bit of a talk as to why this is important.
- As a coach I hear a lot of people talking about ‘this isn’t very efficient’, what is important to us is to understand are we trying to be efficient, or are we trying to be effective. Pair/Mob programming is where I hear this most “why are two developers sitting at 1 computer, that’s not very efficient” – the thing is they are right. Its not efficient, however in the pursuit of their desired result (a product of value and quality) it is extremely effective! Understand that some of these activities may not be efficient in the workplace, but they are effective to keep you at your top performance without suffering from burnout. So lets look at the burnout.
- Lets discuss sustainable pace. As agile practitioners this is something that we are required to live and breathe. Without sustainable pace we find ourselves burnt out and unable to get any momentum within our teams
- This is from another coach that was gathering the metrics for a team he was coaching. For the last few sprints prior to sprint 7 the team had identified a velocity of ~60 sp. In sprint 8 they were told to work overtime to meet a deadline set by their manager. So they did…. And they almost doubled their output in sprint 8, but then what happened. How long does it take for this team to recover what was lost?
