Question 4 :
Software and programmes used
to carry out your research and
present your research? Planning
stages:
I used the software ‘Scribd’ to upload my word documents ; after
uploading my word documents I copied and pasted the embed code
into the ‘html’ of my chosen post so that such planning like my draft
‘script’ and ‘initial ideas’ can be viewed . I must say using this
software was very simple .
I used the software ‘Prezi’ to present my research of existing a2 short horror
film ; I found ‘Prezi’ a lot more interesting in comparison to ‘Microsoft Power
Point’ when presenting my finding as the graphics was a lot more graphical and
modern also a variation of templates which gave my presentations a more
professional look . This site is rated as one of the top websites to use for those
who work with in the business sector as the templates are a lot more technical
and fascinating in comparison to ‘Power Point’.
Using the software slideshare I was able to upload all my presentations
made in ‘Microsoft PowerPoint’ ; this software is very similar almost a
replica of the software ‘Scribd’ the only difference is ‘Slideshare’ uploads
presentation slides and as for ‘Scribd’ only uploads word documents.
This software also was very simple and easy to use and downloaded my
files within seconds.
Using the software ‘Screen o matic’ was very simple. However
‘Screen o matic’ did take some what a long time to download
(60 minutes) ; although despite the length of time it had taken
download ‘Screen o matic’ was very helpful when presenting my
planning of Story board. ‘Screen o matic’ had a box in which you
could enlarge to a certain degree covering the sector of the screen in
which you wanted to film . I decided to use this software to film my
process/construction of storyboard as part of my planning . ‘Screen
o matic’ carries the strength of the ability to show the viewer a step
by step of the creation of my story however a weakness of this
software would be that there is no option as how fast you would like
walk through, the setting of speed which it has been set to for all
users means that the duration of screen recording may be
considerably wrong.
‘StoryboardThat’ – I found this software through the main search
engine google ; I typed in ‘ ways to create my own storyboard’ and
to the rescue came ‘StoryboardThat’ . To my amazement this
software had all my film scene backgrounds which I needed such as
kitchen and bedroom . What I also loved about this software I was
also able to include my script which was also part of my planning.
I found no faults when using this software as it suited its purpose of
showing my ideas of what each scene should look like along with
scripted dialogue.
I used the software ‘Photoshop’ to design my final poster ; I did not find it
difficult using ‘Photoshop’ – as I used this software in AS media when
constructing together my ancillary task also however it is clear this year
that I have developed more skills on this particular software as this year on
my poster for example I have taken more precision in the detail and
alignment of the conventions being in the right place. To upload my poster
I had to save it a ‘Jpeg’ file which allows the PhotoShop file to appear as an
image file which can then be uploaded to the blog via the image icon when
editing a post
I used the software ‘IMovie’ which is only located on a Mac system computer
or laptop to finalise my unedited version of my film as well as my finished
full version of my film. At first this software was quite difficult to use as I had
never used it before although after watching tutorials on YouTube and
asking my media teachers I was able to execute a successful perceived film.
On this software you are to cut clips and assemble them together so that the
film runs through smoothly as one cut also ‘IMovie’ allows you to insert
primary made tracks made on software ‘LogicX’ as well as soundtracks
which are already on the Mac system stored within the sound file.
Using ‘IMovie’ I believe was a great choice for editing my movie as the
software was not easy to use however was not too complex neither.
I used the Microsoft Excel Software to construct and evaluate my age
demographic questionnaire and my premier night questionnaire. This
software was very useful as it formulated my questionnaire results into
data stored into a variation of graph types from bar graphs to pie charts.
I used ‘Microsoft Word’ to give general summaries of my research
findings however I decided not use this software too much like I did last
year as my AS blog was screaming for a variety of software. I utilised
Microsoft word to the best of my ability by not just writing summaries but
creating a spider diagram to show my initial ideas for my film. I also used
word to present the planning and well as final version of my script.
Microsoft Power point alike Microsoft Word are very simplistic and basic
To use ; I am very familiar with the software Microsoft Power Point as I
use it for other subjects. After presenting my findings with the slide show
presentation software Power Point in order to show the presentation I
had to upload my ‘Power Point’ document onto another software called
‘Slideshare’ – the software ‘slideshare’ is only utilised to upload
presentations which can then be shared through social networking sites as
well as embedding onto your own website or in my case my blog.
I created my final review as well as planning on ‘InDesign’. InDesign
is a graphics based software which helps you to perfect you product
by making sure things as the alignments of text and images are
perfect . I struggled with great difficulty when using this software as
I had not utilised this software however after watching tutorials and
talking a graphics teacher with in the sixth form base I was able to
plan my review as well complete my final review in in Indesign also.
When coming to uploading my review onto my blog in comparison
to ‘Photoshop’ there was more procedures which needed to be
done . Once I had finished my review plan I had to go to ‘file’ and
then ‘export’ as an image ‘JPEG’ however sometimes my review
draft and review final piece did not have the option of changing the
file into ‘JPEG’ I therefore had the option of changing the file into a
‘PNG’ file which also another image file which is successful when
uploading and image on ‘Blogger’.
