The document discusses a student media project analyzing the genre of Britpop music videos. It used conventions from real Britpop music videos as influences, including a vintage look. The student project was original in its use of animal masks throughout in an unpredictable way. While most of the video was highly predictable and redundant, conforming to genre conventions, the animal masks added an element of entropy.
1. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT
USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
2. WHERE HAVE YOUR IDEAS COME FROM?
The Main focus I looked at was in the Genre of
Britpop.
The artists and bands I looked at
were, Blur, Pulp, Stereophonics, Oasis, The Arctic
Monkeys and many more.
3. TO WHAT EXTENT HAVE YOU BEEN „ORIGINAL‟?
We have been different in our music video by being
creative. We used animal masks throughout our
music video and throughout our research because
we wanted to involve something different into our
video. We saw something involving animal masks
and we thought that would be a good idea to use.
So we used a pig mask and a rabbit mask.
4. TO WHAT EXTENT HAS ENTROPY BEEN USED?
Entropy is when an image or message is not
predictable. Its when a text or message is entropic
if it contains unpredictable elements.
Throughout our music video there has been many
unexpected elements, for example, when the rabbit
or pig mask pops up in our video, its very
unpredictable.
5. TO WHAT EXTENT HAS REDUNDANCY BEEN
USED?
Redundancy is when an image or message is of
high predictability or conventional. Redundancy is
not merely a useful tool in communication, it
is absolutely vital, a degree of redundancy is
essential to practical communication.
Most of our music video is to do with redundancy,
its very highly predictable.
6. THEORISTS
Nicholas Abercrombie “Television producers set out
to exploit genre conventions… it… makes sound
economic sense. Sets, properties and costumes
can be used over and over again. Teams of
stars, writers, directors and technicians can be built
up, giving economies of scale.”
Steve Neale- Genre = “instances of repetition and
difference.”
7. CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS

This music video shows some of the media
conventions which we incorporated into our own
music video. We incorporated the vintage look into
our music video because it most Brit-pop music
videos it looked like a main feature for this genre
music video.
