The Complexity of Healthcare Communicationcharliemccay
The document discusses the complexity of healthcare communication and information sharing. It notes that more healthcare information is electronic now and distributed across multiple organizations. Healthcare is also more regulated, requiring more data sharing and reuse of information. The document uses the example of GP2GP, a system allowing electronic transfer of patient records between general practitioners. It argues that healthcare information standards are needed to reduce costs and risks of data sharing, and to support interoperability between different healthcare IT systems and tools. The document recommends tactics like having a clear business case for interoperability initiatives and taking an incremental, standards-based approach.
- JISC Collections negotiates and manages licenses for online resources for UK education and research to save costs and improve access.
- It is transitioning its model license from requiring the Athens access management system to the UK Access Management Federation to align with support for standards-based authentication.
- Most publishers have reacted positively to the change, though some still prefer other access options; JISC Collections is accommodating different timelines and allowing alternative access methods during the transition.
Federated access management allows users to access multiple online services using a single username and password. It provides benefits like increased security, reduced workload for organizations, and a better user experience. The UK Access Management Federation provides a standardized way for universities, schools, and other organizations to participate in federated access management. JISC supports the development and adoption of federated access management through funding, guidance materials, and an outreach team.

Limitations of the current internet for the future internet of servicesmbasti2
The document discusses limitations of the current Internet for supporting future Internet-based services. It notes that the current Internet has few public web services and APIs, and services use hardcoded interfaces that limit automation, discovery, and composition of services. It also discusses the need for semantic descriptions of services to enable contextualization, personalization, and adaptation of services to users' everyday lives.
The document discusses some limitations of the current Internet for supporting the future Internet of Services, including that service addressing is based on physical location and technology. It proposes that a service addressing mechanism be developed that is independent of physical location and technology, allowing services to be moved and existing compositions to continue working. Specifically, it suggests using a worldwide service ID to identify services independently of location, with underlying levels responsible for routing messages to services' current locations.
The document summarizes some fundamental limitations of current internet infrastructure for data-intensive storage services needed in the future internet. It identifies that traditional block storage and file systems do not provide scalability, availability, or cost-efficient solutions. It also notes that data cannot be migrated across providers without locking users into specific providers. Additionally, moving large amounts of data to perform computation tasks limits efficiency. The document advocates raising the abstraction level of storage through a new data model, enabling data mobility and interoperability while ensuring quality of service, bringing computation functions closer to storage, and enabling service requests to access data by abstract names rather than physical details.
Design Principles for a Service-Aware Future Internetmbasti2
The document outlines design principles for a service-aware future internet, including enabling service awareness at the infrastructure level, supporting multiple qualities of service, uniquely naming and identifying services, addressing services independently of physical location, and allowing flexibility, dynamics and adaptability in service delivery.
The document discusses SOFI and standardization efforts related to services and the future internet. It mentions that SOFI's constituencies include trust, security, privacy, network architecture, mobility, content delivery, internet of things, service architectures, and future internet scenarios. It also lists some of SOFI's working groups, objectives, and highlights such as the adoption of a standard for service modeling by OMG. Finally, it discusses the Internet of Services and the Unified Service Description Language (USDL) as a common notation for describing services considering business, operational, and legal requirements.

CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on BlockchainClaudio Di Ciccio
Presented at the CAiSE 2024 Forum, Intelligent Information Systems, June 6th, Limassol, Cyprus.
Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
