Qatar's first television channel, Qatar TV, was established in 1970 under the direction of Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Thani Bin Khaled Al Thani. It began broadcasting in black and white in 1970 and added color transmission in 1974. Additional private channels like Al Rayyan were later launched, focusing on Qatari society and identity. Qatar TV and other channels have had different slogans over the years to identify different periods of their broadcast history from 1970 to the present day.
