While working in Risk Management at Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, I partnered with
the Product team to answer the question, "Are quality assessment results correlated with
margins?" We identified five underwriting steps that are critical to profitability. We adjusted
training and created a new metric to drive accuracy around these five underwriting actions.
I mapped data together
using Access and Excel.
I aggregated the data in
pivot tables by
QA result.
We saw that certain QA topics are
correlated with financial results!
I aggregated data for five
highly correlated topics.
We recognized that if even two out
of these five underwriting steps are
missed, margins disappear.
I collaborated with the Product team
to develop a new metric.
We presented the analysis, results,
and operational changes throughout
the organization.
