1. Q128. Many people are unable to
concentrate in their Salaah and their mind
wanders and gets occupied with various
other thoughts. What is the solution of this?
Answer.
1.The
Mind can never remain empty
When many people pray Salaah specially with we Non Arabic
speaking Muslims they don't understand the meaning of all that
is said. What happens then is while offering Salaah a very
small portion of the mind is occupied. Cycologists tell us today
that the human mind can never remain empty. Consequently
what happens is that several thoughts fill in the empty portion
of the mind and cause a person to get distracted. Naturally the
first thoughts that come in the mind are about ones home,
studies, business etc. This fact helps Satan in his effort to
distract us from the remembrance of Allah.
Allah(SWT) speaks about the hypocrites in the Qur'an in Surah
Nisa 4:142 "..when they stand up to prayer, they stand without
earnestness, to be seen of men, but little do they hold Allah in
remembrance"
2.Repeat
the meaning at the back of your mind
The solution of this problem is to repeat the meaning of what is being read in Salaah at
the back of our mind. For example when we read "Alhamdolillahi Rabbil Aalamin" we
should repeat at the back of our minds the meaning "Praise be to Allah the Cherisher
and Sustainer of the Worlds"
When we read "Ar Rahmanir Rahim" we should repeat "Most Gracious Most Merciful" and
so on.
When in Ruku we read " Subhana Rabbil Azeem" we should repeat at the back of our
minds "Glory to Allah the Greatest"
When we read "Subhana Rabbil Aalaa" We should repeat "Glory to Allah the Highest"
When we do this throughout Salaah a greater portion of our mind will be occupied and
we will be less distracted.
3.Learn the meaning of all that is read in Salaah
A person should know and learn the meanings of all that a person says in Salaah in all
postures in kayam, ruku and sujud. We should also learn the meaning of the small
surahs of the Qur'an that are generally read in Salaah. People spend no less than 17
years studying in school colleges and universities to became a graduate . At the end of
17 years they get a piece of paper – a degree. This degree may or may not help us in
this world when we can spend years and decades of our life for some thing which may or
may not help us in this world , why can’t we then spend some time of our lives learning
all this when this will surely help us in this in this world and the Hereafter.
2. 4.Concentration
After a person starts reading the meaning of everything in
Salaah at the back of his mind he will be able to avoid getting
distracted. However after some time even this will becomes a
routine. Then the most important thing will be concentrating on
the meaning of what we are reading. Cycologists tell us that a
person can concentrate only on one thing at a time 100% . We
can't concentrate on two things 100%. Insha Allah all this put
together will help to increase the benefits we derive from our
Salaah.
