• The main role of the distributor is to create an audience through the use of a
marketing campaign. The marketing normally consist of producing trailer,
posters, TV spots, Reviews, PR and press and the internet. The other role the
distributors have is to transport the films to the exhibitors either digitally or
by lorries.

5. INDEPENDENT FILMS
• It is harder for independent films such as 'Sixteen' (Brown, 2013) because the target market
would be a niche audience, meaning not many people would be interested in going and
viewing the film in cinemas. this would push away big distribution companies like '20th
Century Fox because they would see investing in the film as a risky option because the
response to their marketing techniques could go horribly and it would be a waste of money.
However, some independent films like 'Sixteen' never get a distributor, this would resolve in
UK independent films to create a small marketing campaign of their own. This is normally
done through the use of Websites like Facebook.

6. WHAT DISTRIBUTOR WOULD BE BEST FOR US?
• There is no chance that our film will be distributed by a Hollywood company like ’The Warner Brothers’.
This means that we would aim for a smaller distribution company like ‘Icon’. Our film would never be
displayed in a national cinema like Vue or Cineworld because it would be pointless as the audience is
very small. This would lead us to present our film in a independent cinema like Watermans.
