This document discusses the power of words and actions in influencing others. It argues that actions speak louder than words, and that what we show through our behaviors is more important than what we say. It notes that the message we send to others is a combination of both our words and actions working together. When our words and actions are aligned, we have strength in our influence, but when they are not aligned, we risk stumbling and hypocrisy. The document encourages living faith through our deeds as well as our words.

5. The Word Without a Word!
• 1 Pet. 3:1-2 Likewise you wives, be
submissive to your husbands, so
that some, though they do not obey
the Word, may be won without a
word by the behavior of their wives,
when they see your reverent and
chaste behavior.
6. Actions Speak Louder Than Words!
• Mt 21:28-31 "What do you think? A man had
two sons; and he went to the first and said,
'Son, go and work in the vineyard today.' And
he answered, 'I will not'; but afterward he
repented and went. And he went to the
second and said the same; and he answered,
'I go, sir,' but did not go. Which of the two did
the will of his father?" They said, "The first."
Jesus said to them, "Truly, I say to you, the tax
collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom
of God before you.
7. Learn to follow our words with
our works!
• Do we practice what we preach? (Rom. 2:17-24)
– Rom 2:21 You who give teaching to others, do you
give it to yourself? you who say that a man may
not take what is not his, do you take what is not
yours?
• If we don’t allow the Word to change our works,
then we are simply fooling ourselves!
– Mt 7:26 And every one who hears these words of
mine and does not do them will be like a foolish
man who built his house upon the sand;
8. Putting Feet to Our
Faith!
Mt 23:1-3 Then Jesus spoke to the
multitudes and to His disciples, saying:
"The scribes and the Pharisees sit in
Moses' seat. "Therefore whatever they
tell you to observe, that observe and do,
but do not do according to their works;
for they say, and do not do.
9. I. What We Say!
• Growing up I remember kids often saying
“sticks & stones may break my bones, but
words will never hurt me!”
–This was helpful sometimes to get the bully to
move on because if you stopped giving him
reactions he moves on to another victim!
–Yet, the truth to this is that emotional scars
are often far longer lasting than physical scars!
10. “Be Careful Little Mouth What You Say!”
• Js 1:19-20 Know this, my beloved brethren.
Let every man be quick to hear, slow to
speak, slow to anger, for the anger of man
does not work the righteousness of God.
• Mt 12:36-37 "But I say to you that for every
idle word men may speak, they will give
account of it in the day of judgment. "For by
your words you will be justified, and by your
words you will be condemned.“
–Thankfully God offers forgiveness!
11. “Be not many teachers!”
• Js 3:1-2 My brethren, let not many of you
become teachers, knowing that we shall
receive a stricter judgment. For we all
stumble in many things. If anyone does not
stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able
also to bridle the whole body.
–This whole chapter is about the unimaginable
power of the tongue!
12. Rally the Troops!
• Pr 18:21 Death and life are in the power of
the tongue, And those who love it will eat
its fruit.
–Battles & wars have been won & lost as a
result of the power of the tongue!
• Even the means by which God would have
men to be saved, comes through the power
of the tongue!
–Rom. 10:10-17
13. II. What We Show!
• Even understanding the importance of our
last point “what we say” this point speaks
even louder!
–Actions speak louder than words!
• If a picture is worth a 1,000 words, then
what is a moving picture worth?
• Between 60 to 90 percent of all
communication is non-verbal!
–More important than what we say is what we
show!
14. The Right Words but the Wrong Works!
• Mt 23:3 Therefore whatever they tell you to
observe, that observe and do, but do not do
according to their works; for they say, and
do not do. “Their words & works don’t
match!”
• Which son did the will of his father? The
one that said it or the one that showed it?
–Mt. 21:28-31 “The one that showed by his
actions!”
15. Real Faith Works! (Js. 2:14-26)
• Js 2:24 You see that a man is justified by
works and not by faith alone. (RSV) You see
that a man's righteousness is judged by his
works and not by his faith only. (BBE)
• We do not work to receive (works of merit)
we work because we believe (works of
obedience/belief)
16. III. What We Send!
• This last point is the result of the 1st two!
–This is the correlation of what we say & what
we show! What we say + show = what we send!
• The message that we send to others is a
combination of both our words & actions!
–It is not one without the other, but both of
them together!
• When these are in sync there is strength,
when they are not there is stumbling!
17. The Power of Influence!
• Define = the capacity to have an effect on
the character, development, or behavior of
someone or something
• Describe = 1 Cor 15:33 Do not be deceived:
"Evil company corrupts good habits.“
–Col 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God the Father through Him.
18. Conclusion:
• May we never take for granted that fact
that “actions speak louder than words!”
• The child of God must learn to “put feet to
our faith!” Don’t just talk about it, walk
about it!
• If you are not yet a child of God, and you
have not yet been forgiven, then remember
that one day we will all answer for the
words we have spoken, the good news is
that Jesus offers forgiveness!

20. Not Only Convinced, but Converted!
• Convinced = cause someone to
believe firmly in the truth of
something, to persuade
• Converted = Cause to change in
form, character or function; change
from one form to another
