PULP FICTION
The title sequence for this movie is actually about 2 and a half minutes in to the film.
This means that the theme of the movie has been established before the title sequence
begins, which in this case, is crime. Once the first scene is over, the image of the
woman holding a gun is paused abruptly and some fast paced music starts at the same
time as ‘Miramax Films Presents’ comes up in a yellow lettering, all in capitals, at the
bottom of the screen. The screen then goes black, the same piece of music continues to
play and the names of each production company appear on the screen one at a time in
the same yellow writing. Then the title ‘Pulp Fiction’ emerges slowly from the bottom of
the screen in large, bold, yellow lettering which takes up the whole screen once it has
reached the centre of the screen. It then zooms out slowly whilst the actors’ names
appear layered on top of it in white lettering. The title stays on the screen for a further
minute whilst the names of the stars of the movie all appear; and the title disappears
with the last name. The co-stars names then appear in a list form which scrolls down
quite quickly, this means that the names of the co-stars do not stay on the screen for
as long as the main actors names do; suggesting that they are less important. This
movie is quite old compared to the other movie openings I have deconstructed, and
this is noticeable from the title sequence. It is very simple and the words just appear on
a black screen, there is no action going on in the background and no special effects.
