The document discusses visual continuity in film editing, noting that action shown beginning in the first shot should continue into the second shot to create a "visual bridge" between the two shots and carry the action through in a seamless way.
Sylvester Stallone was climbing mountains when a nearby nuclear explosion occurred that was too close for anyone to survive. However, the energy from the explosion did not expand outwards as expected, instead providing lift to nearby vehicles and storing the energy without reaching the climber. The explosion appeared delayed or continuous rather than instantaneous.
This document provides the rules for playing a game called "Soap Opera." Players are divided into teams and each team gets a bar of soap. Team members take turns going to the "shooting area" where the director says a word from a script and the player must sing a song using that word. If they grab their soap first and sing part of a relevant song, they get 10 seconds to wash their soap in a bowl of water. Whichever team fully dissolves their soap bar first wins and becomes the "all-star cast," while the losing team cleans up. The game encourages acting, singing, quick thinking, and teamwork.
SnugBug is an inflatable bed roll that provides a sleeping solution for those living in poor quality dwellings with little space. It can be inflated to provide adjustable support and insulation, rolled up during the day to save space, and fully sealed to keep out cold, heat, and pests. The portable bed roll comes with accessories to block light and sound and is offered in multiple colors.
Our film uses conventions of the thriller genre, including establishing the vulnerability of the young female protagonist. However, it challenges expectations by keeping the antagonist's identity and gender uncertain. This blurring of genres was intended to introduce elements of horror and suspense.
We targeted our film towards young adults based on audience research. To promote it, we created fliers and used social media to raise awareness and intrigue about the upcoming screening.
Through making this film, we improved our skills in camerawork, editing with iMovie, and choosing appropriate locations to make the final product more polished and professional compared to our initial task.

The document discusses how a media product uses, develops or challenges conventions of the thriller genre. It notes that having a sole female protagonist can imply vulnerability, as seen in many thrillers, though female leads are sometimes strong characters. The document uses the example of "Panic Room" which features a strong female protecting her children. It states that in the first two minutes of the discussed film, it is unclear if the sole female character will conform to the vulnerable stereotype or be a strong countertype commonly seen in thrillers.

ome teams find it difficult to measure the success (or failure) of Agile projects. In this presentation we will introduce Atlasssian products that bring agile reporting to life.
Essential SAFe and Launching your first Agile Release TrainCprime
The document outlines the key steps for launching an Agile Release Train using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). It discusses training Scaled Agile Framework Practitioners and Lean-Agile leaders, identifying value streams and setting up the first Agile Release Train. The timeline shows grooming the program backlog, training teams, and planning the first Program Increment which includes PI Planning, the System Demo, and Inspect and Adapt workshops. The "Essential SAFe" focuses on principles, roles, vision/backlog, events, and the Innovation and Planning iteration.
The document discusses what the author learned about technologies from constructing a product using a handycam, tripod, and Mac computer. The author found the camera and tripod straightforward to use but found the Mac more challenging as it was different than computers they had used before. They learned how to edit video clips on the Mac by shortening, splitting, adjusting light/darkness, and adding sound. However, the author also learned technology can be unreliable as their iMovie project was lost when they had to let someone else use the Mac, requiring them to re-upload and re-edit clips and losing some that were deleted from the camera, teaching them to always back up files.
The target audience of the media product was teenagers, so a teenage actress was used. Gore was avoided since target audience research found it puts people, mainly girls, off thriller movies. While the target was teenagers, the short film could appeal to older audiences too since only the opening was shown, leaving the full themes and tone ambiguous. No particular social groups would likely be offended or find the content unappealing due to an absence of upsetting or non-inclusive elements related to sexuality, ethnicity, disability or other defining social factors.
The document discusses the representation of social groups in a media product. It describes how the female character in the film falls under the "damsel in distress" stereotype, as she is being tormented and cannot help herself. Similarly, the film "Taken" depicts a young girl being kidnapped and needing to be saved by her father. The film also portrays the character as a teenager to increase her vulnerability, as younger women are seen as more naive than older women in distressing situations.
The document discusses how women are typically portrayed in films. It notes there are generally three common stereotypes of female characters: the femme fatale, the damsel in distress, and the loyal wife. The female character in the film being discussed falls into the damsel in distress category, as she is being tormented and distressed by someone or something but is unable to help herself. As an example, it references the film "Taken," where the young girl who is kidnapped is also helpless and powerless and needs to be saved by her father.
The target audience provided feedback on the opening scene. They liked shots that created mystery and tension, such as someone watching from outside and shots with torch light. Most identified the genre as thriller due to the music, plot, and creepy nature. Suggestions included improving lighting in dark shots, smoothing transitions between shots, and adjusting audio levels. The filmmakers found the feedback helpful to identify what worked well in conveying genre and what could be improved.
Two men kidnap a girl walking alone and lock her in a damp, neglected cellar. The filmmakers chose this location because it resembles the settings in thrillers they analyzed. They decided to include a female victim kidnapped by men, drawing from The Silence of the Lambs, even though kidnapping was not present in the films they studied, to make their storyline easier to film.
The title sequence for Pulp Fiction begins over two minutes into the film, after the theme of crime has been established. When the first scene ends, the titles emerge slowly in large yellow letters against a black screen, with the names of the main actors appearing individually for a minute before smaller co-star names scroll down quickly. This simple title sequence without background action or effects reflects the film's older age compared to more modern openings.
Thrillers rely on suspense, which is conveyed through elements like sound, editing, mise-en-scene and cinematography. Editing techniques like match cuts between two locations are used to build suspense. Sound, both diegetic and non-diegetic, adds to the suspense with changing music tempos. Mise-en-scene choices like isolation or low lighting create a sense of fear. Psychological thrillers focus on unstable emotions and often include elements of mystery, drama and horror.
The document discusses the thriller genre and provides examples of classic thriller films. It summarizes Alfred Hitchcock's background and rise to fame as the "Master of Suspense" through his directing of notable silent films and talkies in the 1920s-1940s that featured themes of mystery, false accusations, and plot twists. It also notes that psychological thrillers often focus on the unstable mental states of characters and themes involving reality, perception, identity and death.
Thrillers rely on conventions like suspense, crime narratives, and extraordinary events occurring in mundane settings to thrill audiences. Editing techniques like match cuts between two locations are used to build suspense, and the pacing alternates between fast and slow. Soundtracks employ increasing non-diegetic scores and heightened diegetic sounds to convey fear. Mise-en-scene elements like isolation, darkness, and low lighting are employed to create an atmosphere of fear. Psychological thrillers in particular focus on unstable emotions and incorporate elements of mystery, drama, and psychological horror.
