The European Commission proposed legislation requiring a common charging solution for all electronic devices. USB-C will become the standard port for smartphones, tablets, headphones, and other devices. The proposal also mandates unbundling chargers from device sales to reduce e-waste. This addresses consumer frustration with incompatible chargers and is estimated to eliminate 1000 tonnes of electronic waste annually. The proposal aims to save consumers €250 million per year and support green and digital transition goals. It must now be adopted by the European Parliament and Council.
