Hi my name is Gloria, I am sixty three years old, and I plan to graduate in October of 2016 with a Bachelor degree in Organization Manager. I have taken my entire course for my degree I am working on my elective course so I decided to take a minor in child hood development. I thought that it would be a good course since I have work with children all my life, raising ten children and only three from nature birth. I now work with Garland independent school district and come in contact with children every day. I community with people through knowledge, everyone come to me for advice, I listen to everyone problem and try to give the best advice possible and if I don’t have the answer we try to investigate and come up with the right one. I love helping people in any way that I could, planning on retiring from my job that I have been on for seventeen years with the school. After I retire if I have to go back to work I am leaning toward benign school counselor or an adviser working with children. That is if God allow me to do it.

In the early childhood classroom, silence is not golden. Spoken words are opportunities for learning that should take place throughout the day - especially during conversations between children and between teachers and children.
Human language is a remarkable way to communicate. No other form of communication in the natural world transfers so much information in such a short period of time. It is even more remarkable that in three short years a child can hear, mimic, explore, practice, and finally, learn language.
Language learningthere is no genetic code that leads a child to speak English or Spanish or Japanese. Language is learned. We are born with the capacity to make 40 sounds and our genetics allows our brain to make associations between sounds and objects, actions, or ideas. The combination of these capabilities allows the creation of language. Sounds come to have meaning. The babbling sound "ma - ma - ma" of the infant becomes mama, and then mother. In the first years of life children listen, practice, and learn. The amusing sounds of a young toddler practicing language (in seemingly meaningless chatter) are really their modeling of the rhythm, tone, volume, and non-verbal expressions they see in us.
Language -with all of its magnificent complexity- is one of the greatest gifts we give our children. Yet, we so often treat our verbal communication with children in a casual way. It is a misconception that children learn language passively. Language acquisition is a product of active, repetitive, and complex learning. The child's brain is learning and changing more during language acquisition in the first six years of life than during any other cognitive ability he is working to acquire. How much easier this learning process can be for children when adults are active participants!

By far the most important aspect of facilitating learning with infants and toddlers is understanding and responding to the fact that infants and toddlers are active, moti-
vated learners. Infants and toddlers constantly explore the world around them, including
people and relationships, and make sense of things based on their experiences and devel-
opmental abilities.
To facilitate means to make easier. Teachers who effectively facilitate learning make
it easier for infants and toddlers to explore, concentrate on learning, make discoveries,
and solve problems. Teachers can facilitate learning by creating situations that allow chil-
dren to pursue their interests actively, observing as children learn, and expanding oppor-
tunities for learning. Teachers should begin by finding out about the children’s interests
and abilities from their families. Information from the families provides the foundation

In the past few decades, preschool teaching methods have come a long way from the traditional benches and teacher-directed approach. A considerable amount of research has now been done on early childhood. The experts in the field have concluded that the child’s first five years of life is one of the most crucial times in terms of the development that takes place in a child’s life, which has a lasting impact as they grow into adults.
A child begins to learn from the time they are born and continue over their lifespan. An interesting fact is that 90% of the brain develops in the first 3 yrs of life. This is the prime period in child development where learning takes place aggressively and at a phenomenal pace, the child is developing their motor and language skills, and their senses are heightened as they explore and absorb things around them. By the time they reach age, 6.95% of brain development has already occurred. From this, we can derive how significant the early childhood years are.
Around this time, the child also begins their learning outside the home and in a preschool. We must remember that preschool should be when your child begins to love learning and trying out new things. Therefore we need to select a preschool or nursery with teaching methods that best suit your child.

Working for Early Head Start in Springfield, Illinois, I had the pleasure of working with many different nationalities. Each month, I invited a different family to come and speak to our class and share some traditions and items from their where they live. The students loved listening to other families and the families enjoyed sharing their heritage with the students. I learned that incorporating other history into our classroom made the parent/care giver more willing to participate and give back to the classroom. One particular lesson plan, one of my Hispanic families came to teach our children how to count and speak and spell their name. The children were excited to go home and teach their parents. Listening to some of the parents share their beliefs as well as stories that may go on back in their country it gave me more respect for my country.
For my future position, I will still incorporate different ethnicities into my lesson plan and have different families come into the classroom and share their history. One thing that I have also thought about is having a different type of bring your parent to school day. This will allow the parent/child to see what actually goes on in a child’s classroom. This will also allow the parent to interact with their child and their child’s friends. This will also promote a positive learning environment for the student.

Three main strengths that stick out to me are resilience, being able to incorporate, and being self-motivated.
Resilience is being able to recover quickly. Being an educator Resiliency should be a vital strength. Being an educator and having the ability to recover from a bad day at school requires determination. Educators have to wear more than one hat in the classroom while trying to educate their students. Educators have to deal with more disciplinary problems in the classroom. Being able to recovery from dealing with a behavior issue and still maintain your classroom has become very challenging.
Incorporation- Children are learning in many different ways. It is the Educator’s role to incorporate and reach each student so that they can learn. One thing educators are now seeing a lot more of are, children with more learning disabilities. It has been more stressful for educators to research and learn different learning styles and find learning resources for their students.

During your course of study in the M.Ed. program you have examined issues relating to ethics in the educational setting and the importance of promoting diversity. In a one- to two-page paper reflect upon what you have learned throughout your coursework related to ethical issues in education, and discuss the fundamental manner in which your ideas, values, beliefs, practices, and etc. have or have not changed as a result.
Working for Early Head Start in Springfield, Illinois, I had the pleasure of working with many different nationalities. Each month, I invited a different family to come and speak to our class and share some traditions and items from their where they live. The students loved listening to other families and the families enjoyed sharing their heritage with the students. I learned that incorporating other history into our classroom made the parent/care giver more willing to participate and give back to the classroom. One particular lesson plan, one of my Hispanic families came to teach our children how to count and speak and spell their name. The children were excited to go home and teach their parents. Listening to some of the parents share their beliefs as well as stories that may go on back in their country it gave me more respect for my country.
For my future position, I will still incorporate different ethnicities into my lesson plan and have different families come into the classroom and share their history. One thing that I have also thought about is having a different type of bring your parent to school day. This will allow the parent/child to see what actually goes on in a child’s classroom. This will also allow the parent to interact with their child and their child’s friends. This will also promote a positive learning environment for the student.
Identify and describe at least three main strengths in relation to the theme of your portfolio.
Three main strengths that stick out to me are resilience, being able to incorporate, and being self-motivated.
Resilience is being able to recover quickly. Being an educator Resiliency should be a vital strength. Being an educator and having the ability to recover from a bad day at school requires determination. Educators have to wear more than one hat in the classroom while trying to educate their students. Educators have to deal with more disciplinary problems in the classroom. Being able to recovery from dealing with a behavior issue and still maintain your classroom has become very challenging.
Incorporation- Children are learning in many different ways. It is the Educator’s role to incorporate and reach each student so that they can learn. One thing educators are now seeing a lot more of are, children with more learning disabilities. It has been more stressful for educators to research and learn different learning styles and find learning resources for their students.

face the challenges of universe and integrate himself, relate himself to the surroundings, then he will be able to live a life to be a human with values. Whole world is a learning platform, and in fact, learning can happen/ occur at anytime anywhere. A child comes in this universe with full potentiality, inbuilt power, nurture the potentiality, the inborn power , manufactured and empowered by GOD, as an educator be the integral part of a child’s life to be bloomed as integrated human being.

- 1. MERCIDITA C. BOHIA Psed2 Approach that you choose to fit in your class: In this approach there is basic aim to present for the child. Most of us we try to force them to follow us with regards to their special needs. The child has an absorbent mind. The sensitive period, the process of evolution where in one point five to three years, they can already speak language, one point five to three years they all now coordinating their muscles like for instance in bathing, brushing their teeth, washing their hands, toileting by flashing bowls, changing of clothes, combing their hair, at this stage they coordinate already. In teaching learning process I used to apply it in my class discussion by making them to explore their maturity. As an example of giving them an activity which to discover outside by looking what are the things found in the environment and made to interpret and try to present it to the class.
