Strategic Sourcing
Education
Many FM professionals aren’t aware that they are already a
part of the sourcing process. Managing vendors, being involved
in any part of the RFP Process or suggesting vendors are
all part of sourcing. FMs are being challenged to work with
sourcing teams to quantify and validate the value that they
deliver to their end consumer, the store (managers) and their
customers. This new challenge requires education on building
partnerships and understand the fundamentals of sourcing
and ways to increase effectiveness and drive down costs.
Wednesday, October 9: 9:00 am – 10:00 am
Opening General Session: Trends in How We Buy
Without question, how we buy and how we select service providers
has come a tremendously long way in the past decade. But, what
will the future hold? What land mines and other surprises can
we expect? What might we miss given our relentless focus on
reducing costs? In this insightful opening general session, we will
tackle these questions and more as we discuss what will shape
the evolving landscape and how best to prepare for the future.
Michel Theriault, FMP, RPA, LEED AP, Strategic Advisor
Wednesday, October 9: 12:15 pm – 1:30 pm
Luncheon: Key Success Factors of Facilities and Procurement
Teams
“We need to talk.” Sometimes, these words can make your
insides quake. In a professional setting, they’re critical. The
success of a facilities and procurement partnership lies in
clear, concise communication, which allows both sides to
deliver top line results for their organization. During this event
you will hear from facilities and procurement teams who will
share their best practices for establishing strong working
relationships built on open lines of communication.
Wednesday, October 9: 1:45 pm – 3:00 pm
Diverse Strategies in Developing a Strategic Sourcing Plan
When it comes to strategy, one size does not fit all. Each business
is different, each professional, each set of circumstances.
The crux of a strategic sourcing plan is knowing — from the
onset — that adaptation far outweighs hard and fast.
Retailer and Vendor Outcomes:
• Develop sourcing objectives, strategies and tactics
• Evaluate when to use traditional RFPs or conduct online auctions
• Create measurable supplier selection criteria
• Gain real-world knowledge regarding timeline development
David Acquaviva, Sears Holding Co.

Ranking the Respondents: RFP Scorecards
FM professionals strive to deliver value to their customers, the
stores and the stores’ staff. A significant strategy to deliver value is
through the use a systematic sourcing process highlighted by the
Request for Proposal (RFP). But an inherent challenge with the
RFP process is how a FM or sourcing professional rationalizes a
vendor’s profile. Anybody can figure out which vendor should be least
expensive based upon proposed rates and fees, but so often you
“get what you pay for” as the saying goes. But how is one to keep
score of subjective information for the purpose of ranking vendors?
That’s where the RFP Scorecard template comes into play and can
support the evaluating and ranking of qualifiable, subjective data.
This hands-on session will review the RFP Scorecard template
and illustrate how to use it to maximize results. This session will
also feature a review of the new PRSM online Sourcing Tool Kit.
Retailer and Vendor Outcomes:
• Review the basic fundamentals of sourcing
• Discuss what vendor profile information is critical to a retailer
• Insight into the application and use of the RFP Scorecard Template
David Connelly, David’s Bridal
Thursday, October 10: 8:30 am – 9:45 am
A Framework for Assessing and Improving:
Under-Performing Service Providers
How do you work with a service provider without resorting to legal
action? The reality of the sourcing marketplace is that sometimes for
parties feel like their expectations are going unfulfilled. So, how do you
translate concerns into structured issues and work toward improving the
arrangement? This session will propose a framework for assessing an
under-performing arrangement, evaluate the type of relationship that
exists between you and your service provider, and determine whether the
partnership’s built on a foundation of shared trust, goals and objectives.
Retailer and Vendor Outcomes:
• Outline clear provider goals and objectives
• Demonstrate how to conduct data-driven
assessments of service providers
• Perform practical steps to redirect performance

Strategic Green
Sourcing Education
It’s the buzz word heard ’round the world: Sustainability. Nice
idea, right? Here’s the deal, this idea will be standard business
practice. Are you ready? We spend 90 percent of our lives
indoors. The way we build — and operate — the retail and work
environment is supremely important, not only from a health/
well-being and ecological standpoint, but from a business one,
as well. Demand for environmental performance has never been
higher and sustainability will be a key influencer on all aspects
of building operations moving forward. Embracing sustainability
now will mean sustaining your business in the future.
Wednesday, October 9: 1:45 pm – 3:00 pm
Anatomy of a Waste Management and Recycling RFP
This session will unveil the first-of-its-kind waste management and
recycling RFP template developed exclusively for PRSM members.
A must-have tool for retailers, this template offers complete, clear-cut
guidance for both requesting and reviewing bids for recycling programs.
Retailer and Vendor Outcomes:
• Identify critical questions to ask future haulers and consultants
• Learn how to prepare waste management and recycling RFPs
• Examine successful waste management and recycling case studies
• Discover what waste management KPIs retailers are evaluating
Justin Doak, LEED AP, Ecoxera, Moderator; Maureen Lux,
Dollar Tree, Inc. and Tonya Martin, RockTenn Recycling
Wednesday, October 9: 3:30 pm – 4:45 pm
Qualifying Green Vendors and Products
This session is designed to provide clear, consistent steps for
qualifying green, sustainability-driven vendors and suppliers.
Green is the thing, but which earth-focused, eco-friendly
vendors share your vision for the future? While green claims
run rampant, it’s crucial for all sourcing professionals in the
facilities division of retail companies to be able to cut through
the clutter to make the most informed business decisions.
Retailer Outcomes:
• Discover how to assess vendor claims on
sustainability attributes and initiatives
• Learn how to examine and measure vendor
qualification, services and products
• Understand how to utilize the PRSM Strategic
Green Sourcing Survey template
Vendor Outcomes:
• Vendors are encouraged to attend this session to gain valuable
insight into what retailers will be expecting regarding sustainability
• Discover how to meet retailers’ sustainability expectations
• Understand how to utilize the PRSM Strategic
Green Sourcing Survey template

  • 5. 5 Strategic Sourcing Education Many FM professionals aren’t aware that they are already a part of the sourcing process. Managing vendors, being involved in any part of the RFP Process or suggesting vendors are all part of sourcing. FMs are being challenged to work with sourcing teams to quantify and validate the value that they deliver to their end consumer, the store (managers) and their customers. This new challenge requires education on building partnerships and understand the fundamentals of sourcing and ways to increase effectiveness and drive down costs. Wednesday, October 9: 9:00 am – 10:00 am Opening General Session: Trends in How We Buy Without question, how we buy and how we select service providers has come a tremendously long way in the past decade. But, what will the future hold? What land mines and other surprises can we expect? What might we miss given our relentless focus on reducing costs? In this insightful opening general session, we will tackle these questions and more as we discuss what will shape the evolving landscape and how best to prepare for the future. Michel Theriault, FMP, RPA, LEED AP, Strategic Advisor Wednesday, October 9: 12:15 pm – 1:30 pm Luncheon: Key Success Factors of Facilities and Procurement Teams “We need to talk.” Sometimes, these words can make your insides quake. In a professional setting, they’re critical. The success of a facilities and procurement partnership lies in clear, concise communication, which allows both sides to deliver top line results for their organization. During this event you will hear from facilities and procurement teams who will share their best practices for establishing strong working relationships built on open lines of communication. Wednesday, October 9: 1:45 pm – 3:00 pm Diverse Strategies in Developing a Strategic Sourcing Plan When it comes to strategy, one size does not fit all. Each business is different, each professional, each set of circumstances. The crux of a strategic sourcing plan is knowing — from the onset — that adaptation far outweighs hard and fast. Retailer and Vendor Outcomes: • Develop sourcing objectives, strategies and tactics • Evaluate when to use traditional RFPs or conduct online auctions • Create measurable supplier selection criteria • Gain real-world knowledge regarding timeline development David Acquaviva, Sears Holding Co. Maintenance MarketPlace exhibit offers a relaxed environment to engage with 159 vendor partners to discuss their services and your future needs. Browse highly valued PRSM partners and inquire about how their products and services fit your brand’s portfolio. Wednesday, October 9: 10:15 am – 12:15 pm Thursday, October 10: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm To view a full list of vendor partners visit www.prsmmidyear.com, Sourcing in Action. Maintenance MarketPlace
  • 6. 6 Strategic Sourcing Education Wednesday, October 9: 3:30 pm – 4:45 pm Ranking the Respondents: RFP Scorecards FM professionals strive to deliver value to their customers, the stores and the stores’ staff. A significant strategy to deliver value is through the use a systematic sourcing process highlighted by the Request for Proposal (RFP). But an inherent challenge with the RFP process is how a FM or sourcing professional rationalizes a vendor’s profile. Anybody can figure out which vendor should be least expensive based upon proposed rates and fees, but so often you “get what you pay for” as the saying goes. But how is one to keep score of subjective information for the purpose of ranking vendors? That’s where the RFP Scorecard template comes into play and can support the evaluating and ranking of qualifiable, subjective data. This hands-on session will review the RFP Scorecard template and illustrate how to use it to maximize results. This session will also feature a review of the new PRSM online Sourcing Tool Kit. Retailer and Vendor Outcomes: • Review the basic fundamentals of sourcing • Discuss what vendor profile information is critical to a retailer • Insight into the application and use of the RFP Scorecard Template David Connelly, David’s Bridal Thursday, October 10: 8:30 am – 9:45 am A Framework for Assessing and Improving: Under-Performing Service Providers How do you work with a service provider without resorting to legal action? The reality of the sourcing marketplace is that sometimes for parties feel like their expectations are going unfulfilled. So, how do you translate concerns into structured issues and work toward improving the arrangement? This session will propose a framework for assessing an under-performing arrangement, evaluate the type of relationship that exists between you and your service provider, and determine whether the partnership’s built on a foundation of shared trust, goals and objectives. Retailer and Vendor Outcomes: • Outline clear provider goals and objectives • Demonstrate how to conduct data-driven assessments of service providers • Perform practical steps to redirect performance Daryl Watkins, A.T. Kearney
  • 7. 7 Strategic Green Sourcing Education It’s the buzz word heard ’round the world: Sustainability. Nice idea, right? Here’s the deal, this idea will be standard business practice. Are you ready? We spend 90 percent of our lives indoors. The way we build — and operate — the retail and work environment is supremely important, not only from a health/ well-being and ecological standpoint, but from a business one, as well. Demand for environmental performance has never been higher and sustainability will be a key influencer on all aspects of building operations moving forward. Embracing sustainability now will mean sustaining your business in the future. Wednesday, October 9: 1:45 pm – 3:00 pm Anatomy of a Waste Management and Recycling RFP This session will unveil the first-of-its-kind waste management and recycling RFP template developed exclusively for PRSM members. A must-have tool for retailers, this template offers complete, clear-cut guidance for both requesting and reviewing bids for recycling programs. Retailer and Vendor Outcomes: • Identify critical questions to ask future haulers and consultants • Learn how to prepare waste management and recycling RFPs • Examine successful waste management and recycling case studies • Discover what waste management KPIs retailers are evaluating Justin Doak, LEED AP, Ecoxera, Moderator; Maureen Lux, Dollar Tree, Inc. and Tonya Martin, RockTenn Recycling Wednesday, October 9: 3:30 pm – 4:45 pm Qualifying Green Vendors and Products This session is designed to provide clear, consistent steps for qualifying green, sustainability-driven vendors and suppliers. Green is the thing, but which earth-focused, eco-friendly vendors share your vision for the future? While green claims run rampant, it’s crucial for all sourcing professionals in the facilities division of retail companies to be able to cut through the clutter to make the most informed business decisions. Retailer Outcomes: • Discover how to assess vendor claims on sustainability attributes and initiatives • Learn how to examine and measure vendor qualification, services and products • Understand how to utilize the PRSM Strategic Green Sourcing Survey template Vendor Outcomes: • Vendors are encouraged to attend this session to gain valuable insight into what retailers will be expecting regarding sustainability • Discover how to meet retailers’ sustainability expectations • Understand how to utilize the PRSM Strategic Green Sourcing Survey template Justin Doak, LEED AP, Ecoxera, Moderator, Linda Giddens, Office Depot and Amber Johnson, Powerhouse Retail Services
