The US Coast Guard published a 10-year Arctic Strategy to promote safe maritime activity in the Arctic. The strategy focuses on improving awareness, modernizing governance, and broadening partnerships in the Arctic. To implement the strategy, the Coast Guard will enhance Arctic operations and exercises, improve maritime domain awareness, ensure Arctic surface and air capabilities, and establish various partnerships and centers related to Arctic policy and safety. The Coast Guard is also working to improve hydrographic information, routing measures, aids to navigation, and environmental information to better manage marine transportation systems in the Arctic. This includes a Bering Strait Port Access Route Study to make vessel traffic safer and more efficient.
