This passage summarizes a meeting that took place in 1923 between eight of the wealthiest financiers in the world who collectively controlled more money than the US government at the time. It then provides an update on what happened to each of these men 25 years later, noting that they each experienced significant financial hardship and in some cases bankruptcy, insanity, suicide or prison, despite having mastered the art of earning money. Paul wrote this epistle from prison in Rome where he had plenty of time as he awaited his trial. Daille wrote, "The imprisonment of St. Paul has done the church more good than the prosperity of the rest of the faithful of that age." This letter was written the same time as the letter to the Ephesians and Philemon, and they all seem to be delivered by the same messengers, Tychicus and Onesimus who was returning to his master, Philemon, who lived in Colosse.

1. PROLOGUE – my son you are a winner
My son, you are a winner
My dear son,
The world we live in is tough!
It is tougher for those who face it without the bail out plan - advice on the methods of taking
decisions in life. To win the game of life you will need a plan and a set of principles and values
to follow.
My desire for you my son is that you will have a head start in life.
This short note is my desire to give you the principles that I believe will get you out of the rut
-each time that life throws you in.
I have no doubt in my mind that you are a winner.
You are on this side of the heaven because you have a specific purpose – a thing or two that you
must accomplish. You are here to cause a positive change in your generation.
My confidence is based on the following, among others:
• You celebrated your first birthday on earth in the High dependency unit (HDU) of the
University of Alabama Hospital, Birmingham. This was after a 2nd successful open heart
surgery at the Hospital. You were born on the 1st day of July 2003 – your mother chose
your birthday since it was an elective caesarian birth .
On the fourteenth day of your life on this earth you were diagnosed to have a congenital
heart defect known as tetrology of Fallot. Which is in the layman’s language, a hole in
the heart and blockage of the pulmonary valve.
A number of cardiologists, who reviewed you in a number of hospitals in Nairobi, gave
you only three months in this wonderful world- if the surgery would not take place
immediately.
At the time surgeries for toddlers was a pipe dream in Kenyan Hospitals and hence our
faith was about causing a mount to be uprooted and thrown into the sea.
Your mother and I believed differently.
The miraculous story of how you ended up at the UAB hospital in Alabama USA – all
bills amounting to about USD 80,000 paid - is a story for another day.
In my next letter to you, I promise to give you the details!
2. • The Operation manual from your creator, (remember the purpose for a thing is only in
the mind of the creator of the thing), the Bible, records that you are fearfully and
wonderfully made; Marvelous are the works of the one who created you (Psalms 139:
13-14).
My interpretation of this is that your maker had a design of you before you were formed
in your mother’s womb.
As a matter of fact the chances of you being conceived as opposed to any other child at
the point of conception were in the region of 1 in 400,000,000. Biologically speaking only
one sperm fertilized the egg that was produced by your mother to form you, but there
are chances – proved biologically- 400million of them started that journey.
You are that special, my son. You are not a product of chance. You have a specific job
that you must accomplish during your stay on earth. You are the only one who can
accomplish that – since there has never been anyone like you and there will never be.
You finger print is so unique that it does not march any other in the worlds 6 billion
population.
• You must remember who you are.
In the movie, "The Lion King," Mufasa told Simba, "Remember who you are."
My son, this are the most powerful words ever spoken in a movie – remember who you
are, if you do you will evaluate everything you hear on the basis of “who you are”.
This is really important since deep in our hearts, we all know the true magnificence that
we are inside. Most of us know that we are a part of something so much bigger than
ourselves -- we are spiritual beings having a human experience.
We know that we create our own realities, and that we are both the director and the
actor in our own little screenplay called life. With this knowledge we should never allow
ourselves to dive head first into the muck of life and perceive it to be the real and true
part of our lives.
Life without passion, purpose, and a connection to something bigger than us can be
disastrous, no matter how good our life may look to others. We all know this, yet
sometimes we still allow life to sneak up on us and take over. We start to play the part of
the pawn instead of the chess master, the actor instead of the screenplay writer.
Of course, knowing that you really do have the power to do, be, or create anything in
your life can be daunting and a bit intimidating too. Sometimes it's just easier to keep
things superficial and play the victim.
Regardless of the reason of why we hide from our magnificence, we have a choice. We
can choose to jump out of the play and promote ourself back to the status as the
3. screenwriter and not the actor. You must realize that we create what we get through our
thoughts.
My son, it doesn't matter that we sometimes forget. What matters more is how quickly
we remember who we really are.
We have the power to do, be, or create anything we choose in our lives. Our potential is
unlimited, as are our choices in life. If the magnitude of life gets overwhelming, take a
moment, close your eyes, breathe, and reconnect with the greater part of you. Just listen
to your heart and to your breath. Both know exactly what to do without you even
thinking about it. Tap into that part of your greatness.
Being in the play is not nearly as much fun as watching it from the sidelines and
directing the outcome.
It is with this in mind that I write this short note to you, to make strong suggestions on the
steps that you need to be the both the script writer and main Actor in the Movie of your life -
that God has prepared for you and be able to fulfill your destiny.
We fall into various “ruts” in our journey on earth and the following seven principles in my
note to you will guide you out of any rut you find yourself in.
My prayer is that you will honor me by following them.
The book of Mark 10:46-52 gives us a wonderful story of a man that was in a rut in his life and
took some actions that allowed him to overcome his situation.
Mark 10:46-52 - Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were
leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (that is, the Son of Timaeus), was sitting by the roadside
begging. [47] When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus, Son of David, have
mercy on me!" [48] Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, "Son of
David, have mercy on me!" [49] Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called to the blind man,
"Cheer up! On your feet! He's calling you." [50] Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and
came to Jesus. [51] "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. The blind man said, "Rabbi, I
want to see." [52] "Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and
followed Jesus along the road.
The passage opens by stating a couple of facts about the man that would relate to you:
• He had a name – Bartimaeus – son of Timaeus. In many instances the Bible talks of a
certain man or woman. But in this case our writer Mark records the name of this man and
does not forget to mention whose son he was. This would obviously mean that he was a
son of a known man in the city of Jericho.
• The fact of life was that he was blind. Though his father was a known man in the society
the blind man with a name was a beggar at the entrance of the city of Jericho. He was in
a rut due to his circumstances – his status in life not withstanding.
4. • People of the city knew about his situation and did nothing about it. As a matter of fact
his own family did nothing about it.
• He begged at the entrance of the city – and hence until the encounter with Jesus he did
nothing to change his circumstances. He was a victim of circumstances and thought that
his situation was permanent.
• His location was well known by all. Everyone saw him as they went in and out of the
city and basically ignored him save for the coins they would through at him once in a
while.
• He created a profession out of his sad situation.
The seven principles are drawn from this wonderful story of the man who was in a difficult
situation in his life and changed it by realizing and doing the following.
