NRW has been awarded a $140 million contract by Rio Tinto to develop the Marra Mamba iron ore deposits in the Pilbara region of Western Australia over a 24 month period. The scope of work includes construction of haul roads, stockpiles, waste dumps and other infrastructure, production mining including drilling and blasting, haulage of high grade ore 12km to an existing plant, and supplying and operating two 5Mtpa crushing plants. NRW will utilize excavators, loaders, dump trucks, road trains, dozers, graders and water trucks to complete the project which will produce 10Mtpa of saleable ore product.

PROJECT SUMMARY
NRW has been awarded a contract from Rio Tinto for contract mining
and ore haulage, which is located within the West Pilbara region of
Western Australia, situated approximately 60 km north-west of Tom
Price. Having completed a significant amount of civil related projects
for Rio Tinto this contract represents a significant step forward in
building a relationship with a key, long term client, across both of
NRW’s civil and mining divisions respectively.
The scope of the Nammuldi Incremental Tonnes – Phase 2 Project is
to develop the Marra Mamba iron ore deposits to produce 10Mtpa
Saleable Ore Product.
The scope of the contract is for the development of the Greenfield site
including:
• Construction of mine haul roads, ore stockpiles, waste dumps
and other mine infrastructure
• Production mining (including drill & blast)
• Haulage of high grade ore from mine area to the existing
Nammuldi Plant site (12km’s)
• Supply, installation and operation of two 5 Mtpa crushing plants
The NRW fleet that is being utilised on the project includes two 250T
excavators, one 190T excavator, five 992 loaders, fourteen 140T
dumptrucks, three 90T dumptrucks, four 200T roadtrains, seven D10
dozers, two 16 graders, one 14 grader and five watertrucks.
The contract term runs for 24 months and is anticipated to have a peak
of 140 personnel on site, including local indigenous.
