The document presents a project aimed at understanding how to best educate and discipline children aged 7-12. 2. Problem. Younger children from 7 – 12 are becoming more rebellious as they are immature. This causes parents and teachers to have less control over them.

3. Objective To find out how to educate and discipline children of different age groups and backgrounds. We do this by understanding how a child thinks in that age group ( 7-12) and identifying the best methods to realte to them, what do they prefer the methods of education in academics and character purposes. Allowing teachers or parents to connect with the students/children.

8. Minor Plan + Process (all this has been completed ) We would go to Eager Beaver, a childcare centre, to test out the results of our survey during the one week holiday in march. We would individually used different ways of approaching the children at the childcare. By conducting minor activities during their field trips to see how they would react. We followed them to Sentosa, and we also played games with the children in the childcare itself. Then we would record observations in the way the children reacted to us. ( how we treated them ) Using the observations, we would create the conclusions and solutions, also information that we recorded will be used to create the steps in how to correct rebellious behaviour.

9. Observation + Findings Children often respond better to being treated nice, but do not take instructions seriously when they are treated nicely. The children prefer to be treated nicely, yet they don’t listen well when treated this way. In being strict, children listen, however, they do so reluctantly, as they fear punishment When a promise of reward is given, they listen well and work hard to gain rewards, and they are happy when they do receive the reward. Punishment is the worst, as the children feel unhappy, yet they do, to a certain extent, realise their mistake.

10. Examples “ First lets establish this, I volunteer in the children's section at the public library, we have puppets, other toys, and a few loose books under the window seats. I was working yesterday with my friend shelving movies, and a little boy comes in. His mom tells him to pick put some books while she gets a video for his sister. Anyway, as soon as his mom turns around he goes over the puppet rack and pulls off all the puppets throwing them everywhere, and starts screaming. His mom turns around and just watches as he flings around the toy chest, and empties a few book bins. My friend and I just stare in disbelief . His mom calls him over and they walk off, his mom doesn't say anything except ask him if he wants to go to McDonalds. Leaving me and my friend to clean up his mess, right as our shifts were over. 11. How to Correct Rebellious Behavior in a Child Rebellious behavior in a child can cause the relationship between the parent and children, or teacher and student to have a problem. To help understand why the children do these, we have come out with five steps.

12. The question “Why don’t parents control their kids anymore?” Is it because they can’t control them? Therefore, with this, we came up with 5 steps to help curb the rebellious behavior We also came up with four methods to help prevent rebellious behavior.

13. Step 1 – Understanding! Understand why the child is rebelling and what type of rebellion it is. In younger children, rebellion is merely childish and is often testing for a reaction. If you don’t even TRY to understand your child and force him into doing things YOU want him to do, it will just make him feel worse and turn to rebelling to get you to stop.

14. Step 2 – React, not Overreact. Avoid getting affected by the behavior. When a young child rebels, attention is what he is looking for. By reacting to his actions, it leads him to thinking that it is okay to express himself in a aggressive manner. By not getting personal with the rebelliousness, you can access the problem calmly.

15. Step 3 – Forgive, but don’t forget. Allow the child to face the consequences on his/her own actions, and not help him/her. This would allow the child to understand the consequences better. Therefore scolding or punishing in a case of disrespect can be beneficial.

16. Step 4 – Encouragement*** Offer positive reinforcement when you can. It is far too easy to look for the negative in your child when he is being rebellious, and what's more, that is the reaction he is expecting to get. Instead, focus on the positive and offer encouragement when he does something desirable, no matter how small the action may be. Thank him for being nice to his sister or for getting home before curfew. When you focus more on the positive than you do the negative, he'll slowly reform his behavior to garner even more encouragement.

17. Step 5 – Don’t overdo it. Be reasonable. The punishment should fit the crime, and expectations should be fully laid out before you try to reform your child. If your child doesn't understand your expectations, he can hardly be held responsible for rebelling. Choose natural rules that are followed by reasonable consequences for actions and be consistent in your issuing of discipline and consequences so there is never any question as to what is expected of your child.

18. Implementation IF WE CONTINUE WITH OUR PROJECT WORK, WE WILL CARRY OUT THESE STEPS THAT WE HAVE CREATED OVER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME ANAYLSING THOSE CHILDREN TO SEE IF IT IS USE TO SOLVE OUR PROBLEM AND ACCOMPLISH OUR OBJECTIVE.

19. CIP We helped out at the Childcare centre for a week from Monday to Friday. It was during the March holidays.

22. Conclusion Children prefer being treated nicely, and getting rewarded, however, being strict with them at appropriate moments is still needed to enforce discipline. Punishing the children when they just show a little of rebellious behavior will only cause the children to become more rebellious and this will disrupt the relationship between the child/student and parent/teacher. A teacher can perfect a child in academics, but only a parent can teach Character .
