Background Information
• 1st grade IE class which has 6 students in total
• One month project (40 periods)
• Object: The students will learn school
environment and school activities.
• Driving Question
What happens at school?
Activity 1 : Make classroom rules
Students will take ownership and
responsibility of their own
classroom rules by making their
own classroom rules. Also it will
provide a chance for students to
think about how to make class
happy.
Activity 2 :
Labeling classroom objects
• Students will practice
vocabulary on classroom
objects by making the labels
• Students search for the
image and spelling for each classroom
object, tape the label on
the right object.
Activity 3 : Meeting school people on video phone
Students will meet
and talk with school
people, such as a
principal, nurse,
librarian and people
in the office on video
phone.
Activity 4 : Make a school map
• Students take pictures of school places
taking a tour of school. With the pictures
students will draw a school map on a
photoshop application.
Activity 5: Survey
Students will make a survey on favorite school places,
people and school actions and complete it with their
peers in mainstream class by asking and taking
answers down. Teacher will figure out students’ interest
and get some ideas how to make students happy.
Activity 6 : Build up my school
Students will create a school in a group. They
will discuss who what how to make. They will
add labels and signs for places and people.
Teacher will assess student’s unit outcomes by
observing their work. Students will display the
farm model in the hallway for other students
to learn.
