Gender differences in early childhood development are discussed from psychoanalytic and systems perspectives. Psychoanalytic views focus on the child's psychological development influenced by caregivers, while systems perspectives examine cultural influences. The paper compares these views on a critical gender development issue and argues which theory is most relevant for scholarly practice based on supporting evidence from research and a real-life example.
